Khandra Al-Isiq Organization in Gaia | World Anvil

Khandra Al-Isiq (Kaan-drah Aal-Iss-siq)

Khandra Al-Isiq is a country that calls the northern main island of Al-Isiq as it's own. It's territory includes the entire Khandra Desert, up to the The Crown of the Shield. The Country was rather isolationist, yet welcoming to travelers. It's known to stay out of the affairs of Gaia's political games to the best of its ability.   The city itself was built around a chasm, and has many floating islands that float above the crystal caverns and openings around the city. These are often held to the city by Mighty chains and traveled to by air or teleportation. It is a mystery of how the city was founded, but it was said to have been a college that evolved into a city over a reservoir of ley crystals that charge the area with mana.   Ley storms occur all around the city usually at night, giving it its natural defenses against any hordes that may wish to reclaim the city for its location to the Underfoot gateways.  these storms from the city are often harmless, but give nightly light shows when the clouds roll in from the mountains when day turns to night.

Structure

The government of Khandra Al-Isiq is that of a council of mages that speak though what is called an Arbiter. This Oligarchy over sees the entire city and it's people, as well as keeping the magic in check with everything inside the territories. They are set on exploring the Underfoot through the many chasms that dot the Khandra desert. The city is policed by a group that are called Seekers, these Seekers take orders from the council of mages directly. They provide the security and protection of the city, as well as it's maintenance and magical aptitude.

Culture

The culture of the people within the city are a mix mash of travelers, mages, and scholars, as well as stray adventurers that seek to explore the Underfoot. There is not Adventuers' Guild in Khandra Al-isiq, but there is an equivalent that is led by the city's Mage College that offers jobs  nd payment for anyone willing to explore on behalf the college.   This alone makes it more tempting than Guild Based facilities, as they do pay more and are unregulated. The guild of Lore does have people that do report back, and often this upsets the college due to the insincerity of its denizens.

City Life

The day to day lives of folk living in the city, is usually laid back and more relaxed. There are poor, but not as much, the city takes care of its people, as most do join the college or work for the various industries within the city. Pathfinders are often found in the desert mapping out areas where to explore, and where to mark safe for an unorganized highway system to the many settlements and camps that dot the hot sands.
