Caste Highlands Geographic Location in Gaia | World Anvil

Caste Highlands (Ka-ast)

The Caste Highlands are an interesting exotic location that remains mostly tropical, yet not as luscious as a rainforest. This area ia smountainous with a hilly slope of carved formations of stone with fauna and vegitation atop these formations.   The region has also been calssified as a cloud forest as well. The higher one goes into the mountains, the more foggy it gets and humid it gets. This is due to the Kharis Jungle bneing above sea level in this particular area.   There are Primal ruins that dot this place, as well as several minor human settlements. It appears that this was also a human region before Sassliss had Vassalized it.

Geography

The region is a unique and beautiful tropicla region that houses many crags to green mountains that surround the Kharis Jungle above sea level. The area has many sandy coastal areas as well as waterfalls from the mountains above. A light fog usually settles down in the lowlands of this region in the morning before it warms up.   The lowlands are a tropical coast with many sandbars and sandy shores with large pillars of stone that seem to break off from the mountains and become hills closer to Lake Jammis. Its worth to mention there are two kinds of ruins that dot this land, Primal, and Ancient Human. It is possible the two had clashed in the past.

Lake Jammis

Lake Jammis is a fresh water lake that has an abundunace of tropical sealife in its contents. The fact this is a tropical fresh water lake, has gained the interest of many people, and even possibly Sassliss' reason for Vassalising the region, a sorce of freshwater.   This lake is backgrounded by mountains, and hills with the first part of the land being tall jagged rocky pillars amongst sandbars and shallows. Many minor rivers empty into Jammis from the Kharis Jungle, and even as far north as the Tears of Gaia, being where the river drains into. The lake of course also has a river that drains from it, to the south, known as the Great Scar. All of which these rivers serve as the natural boundaries of this exotic highland.

Ecosystem

The eco system is tropical. With the abundence of a rare freshwater lake; one of the few in the world to be in Gaia's tropics, has garned the region to be pretty unqiue, and preserved. Tropical wildlife is abundant, to colorful birds, to even more exotic creatures found in the palm forest clusters and rivers. It's also to worth note that Ancient Primal life was once common here, alongside native humans known as Casters.

Casters

Casters are the indiginous humans that live within teh Highlands. They were a small minority and mostly wiped out by Sasslisian xenophobia during the Imperium's founding days. Hwoever small bands of them do remain, and they are reluctantly accepting of Sassliss' rule over them. Unlike Sassliss, these humans are usually friendly to outsiders, which ofers a rare glimpse of life inside the Imperium.   These humans are known to be a tanned skin with black hair, usually baring tribal tatoos and colorful garb. Primarily a fishing culture, these people have lived in this region for centuries. A few Isarian sympathizers also identify with them, yet they are not fully trusted.

Fauna & Flora

The region is very tropical, Humid and coastal. The Clouid forest moniker name comes from the mists that flow over and down from the Kharis Jungle aboive the hills. This region has also been nick-named the Backdoor into the Kharis Jungle. You will find many palm trees here, mangroves, and other colorful plants as well as thousands of flower speices that live of the fresh water and the misty fog from the jungle.   This region is also been known to host over a thousand medicinal plants and trees, making it a very very valuble part of Gaia, and the continent.
"It is hard to beleive this paradise remains under the claws of Sassliss, however it is the easiest area to get into if your an outsider. The Casters usually scoff at Imperial Patrols. I think the only reason why they have not risen up, is due to the militaral superioty of Sassliss, and how easily it could crush these folk. If war were to happen here, it would be a global castrophy due to the exotic ecosystem in which it lays."
