A blessing is given out by a powerful being. This can range from deities to demons.

There are many reasons why blessings are given out. It could be a reward or apart of a contract. No matter the case, a blessing always gives something. However, once a blessing is given, it's permanently bonded to the mortal. The person who gave the blessing is capable of manipulating the blessing if they so chose. But, this takes effort.
A blessing could also be considered a curse. The blessing may have a deliberate effect or an accidental one. The problem with blessings is that there will always be a side effect. If done purposely, these side effects could detrimental to the mortal.

Effect

Blessings have a wide variety of effects. These effects depend on who gave the blessing.

Side/Secondary Effects

Blessings always have side effects, even if it's not noticeable. For example, one person may have a change of eye color whereas someone might grow horns. The more powerful the blessing, the more likely and extreme the side effects will be.

Manifestation

A common manifestation is the change of aura. Once a mortal receives a blessing, their aura starts to resemble the deity or demon that gave the blessing. Besides that, people can manifest their blessing in a multitude of ways.

Material Components

There are no material components needed for a blessing. However, it's possible to strengthen the power of your blessing with them.

Gestures & Ritual

Gestures aren't necessary, but they become a custom to people who have blessings. Rituals aren't necessary either, although it's believed that a ritual helps with greater uses of a blessing.
