Advanced Lynetic Degradation
More commonly known as Lynerot, Advanced Lynetic Degradation is itself a bit of a misnomer, as it refers to the degradation of a Lyne tattoo's host, rather than the Lynes themselves.
In order to maintain themselves, Lyne tattoos directly absorb energy from their host via osmosis in a symbiotic relationship. Hosts can replenish these nutrients via the consumption of Refuel, which is distributed by the Firmament Corporation. Failure to do so in a timely manner can result in rapid acceleration of osmosis absorption, or Rapid Onset Advanced Lynetic Degradation (Rapid ALD). If untreated by the host, this condition has been known to cause resperatory and especially cardiac issues, up to and including cardiac arrest. Frequent experiences of Rapid ALD can result in chronic resperatory and circulatory issues, and has even been known to affect the bone density of affected areas (areas where the Lyne tattoos are located on the body).
Of course, even well-regulated application of Refuel is not a foolproof method of prevention. Depending on the density and surface area of the Lyne tattoos, Cumulative Onset Advanced Lynetic Degradation (Cumulative or Delayed ALD) will affect all hosts at some point in their lives. Most hosts, having Lyne tattoos on one arm (typically one forearm) will experience this quite late in their lives. Typical treatment involves the removal of the Lyne tattoos, along with the limb hosting them.
Cumulative ALD (Lynerot) is most prevalent and well-known among Seers, hosts with Lyne tattoos on their eyelids, due to the low mass/density of the area.
