Lyne tattoos

A unique application of magic and technology, Lyne tattoos imbue unique hyper-biological abilities in the recipient. These abilities vary, depending upon where on the body the tattoos are placed. Most commonly, Lynes are found on the arm, giving the recipient the ability to manifest "energy weapons" from their arms, as well as fire electrical blasts, grant themselves brief bursts of strength, and even power small electrical devices briefly.   The application of Lyne tattoos is severely limited both biologically and legally. Most recipients' bodies reject tattoos, often resulting in violent illness and death. As such, the age of legal consent for Lyne tattoos is twenty. Essentially, this bars the vast majority of people from receiving Lynes, as the rejection-rate raises exponentially after six years of age.   This combination of legal and biological restrictions means that the vast majority of Lyne tattoos are applied to Synthetics, as they are legally not considered human.   Lyne tattoos can be extremely energy intensive, and were consequently designed to draw their energy directly from the bodies of their hosts in a symbiotic relationship. It has been speculated that Lynes were invented as an offshoot of research into infinite energy, a field of study that may have led directly to the founding of the Church of Perpetual Motion.
