Godstone
Godstones are small crystals in various shapes and sizes. They can produce immense amounts of Essence due to having the ability to draw power from the universe itself. However, this immense power is not easily accessed since Godstones are living beings with a personality of their own and require a host body to properly channel the energy available to them. A Godstones color is similar to the type of Essence it produces.
While being without a host body the Godstone is almost powerless, incapable of creating much power at all, only being able to manifest a large Aura around itself. This Aura can be used to influence people near the Godstone to find it and pick it up. If the Godstone finds this potential host to be suitable it will proceed to influence the person to swallow the Godstone or otherwise allow the Godstone to get into the person's body. If the person was found not to be a suitable host it will be used to transport the Godstone to find a suitable one instead.
When entering a hosts body the Godstone will link itself to the person's nervous system. Depending on the Godstones nature it will try to either start a hostile takeover of the host's body or, much less likely, try to communicate peacefully with the host. Resisting a hostile takeover from a Godstone is said to be nearly impossible, but the few who manage can obtain godlike power. There are some rumors about Godstones voluntarily bonding a soul with full control over the stone by sealing it inside and effectively sharing it.
The link between host and Godstone has different stages depending on how well the two work together:
Stage 1 is the safest stage for the host and no hostile takeover from the Godstone is possible. In this stage, all contact between the two entities is made through physical contact alone. This is usually done by the host touching the Godstone to draw power from it. The more power the host tries to draw the harder it is for him to resist the urge to swallow the Godstone.
Stage 2 is the deciding stage for the host. He will either overpower the Godstone or be overpowered himself, causing his Soul to be destroyed and the Godstones Auro taking its place instead. After that, the host body will adjust to the power of the Godstone inside it. This can take anywhere from minutes to weeks depending on the Essence compatibility between host and Godstone as well as how well the host body handles all the extra Essence. An unprepared host body can be permanently damaged or even destroyed at this stage.
In Stage 3 the host body and Godstone have fully adjusted to each other and if either the host or the Godstone have full control over the other they know count as a full God. The amount of power provided from the Godstone to the host depends on the host body's capabilities which will constantly be expanded until either the host or the Godstone reach their limit.
Although considered indestructible Godstones can still be harmed. As they are living beings with a fully functioning mind they are susceptible to mind attacks, although it is very hard to attack them using Aura or other direct attacks. It is much more efficient to inflict psychological trauma to them or make them go insane, as the latter is the case with many Godstones that have spent eons without a host body, trapped within themselves. However another possible and much more effective approach to harming a Godstone is splitting it. It is said that any and all Godstones are simply fragments of the first god Gon'Sha that have gained sentience. This seems like a likely theory since splitting a Godstone results in the stones pieces crystalizing a hull around the exposed inner parts of the original crystal and functioning as a new independent being with personality only vaguely similar to the original. However these splits can have fragments of the original personality and often they are just an insane mess for the first few hundred years of existence until their personality has stabilized, often only with the help of a host body. There is also always one fragment that has the power to reabsorb the other fragments into itself. It is unclear how far up this is possible, but theories suggest that if someone would posses the core piece of Gon'Sha he would be able to absorb all Godstones and ascend to ultimate godhood himself. One thing that became quite clear early on in history however is that is impossible to bing more than one Godstone to a single host body, as the Godstones will fight for control and destroy the body due to the different colors. Even Godstones of very similar color had this destructive effect on host bodies.
