Essence

Essence is pure magic energy that is produced by all living beings. Every living cell produces varying amounts of Essence and uses Essence to sustain and enhance itself. For example, cells regenerative capabilities are directly linked to how much Essence is available and many specialized cells such as muscle and nerve cells can utilize Essence to greatly enhance their performance. While most cells can simply increase their performance when consuming Essence, nerve cells can go a step further, being the only cells capable of using Essence to interact directly with the world which is called Magic. Part of the Essence produced by cells is also used to protect the being it is produced by and to act as a sixth sense. Cells do that by surrounding themselves with a small, thin field of Essence, called Aura
Different beings usually produce a different type of Essence with general trends within a species. These types are grouped by their distinct color. Pure colors are rare and most people naturally produce a single impure color of Essence, however with training a person can increase the purity of their Essence color as well as convert their color to another or produce another, although the latter is very rare. Certain colors are better for certain purposes and your Essence color is your Soul color as well and influences your personality. The colors can be put on a spectrum similar to that of light, with violet being on the energetic and hard to control end, while red is on the other end, being much less energetic, but much more controllable. There are a few colors that exist outside of this spectrum like white and black which are much rarer and much more powerful. These differences between colors lead to the creation of different fighting styles and specializations among Essence users, commonly referred to as Color Styles.
