The Immortal

A man apart from time

This charater will be the gateway through which players can gain access to magic. Garnering his favor may be a bit of doing however.

Long has a man outside of time been spoken of. A man unaging and unyielding who is said to be of great strength and ability. Said to look as a young man, he was often described as initially unassuming, a good looking man who thought of himself as above none. Although the greatest leader of men, never has he been described as above those he commanded. His hands bloodied by each battle he fought as he stood aside his soldiers.

Historical Basis

It is unclear if the Immortal was ever one man, or a mantle put upon great men in times of dire need. His face and name never recorded, nor any real accounts of his appearance has led many more contempory scholars to question the truth of such an outlandish tale.

Born out of the First Pellenin War the legend of the Immortal speaks of the uniter of the Cal. During the war a mythic figure emerged, he claimed little in the way of achievements but the people told that he had founded Cal-Cambra in an age before. It was during he rose to prominence leading the army of Cal-Cambra against the Knights of Pelliny. With each battle his legend grew, and before long he rode to each of the Kings and marshaled their armies into a single fighting force for the first time. Given the title of Marshal of the Cal he led the armies of Athera driving back the Knights of Pelliny. His acheivements and victories on the field of battle, and his success within the halls of the kings won him a great deal of political clout. Levraging all his power he bound together the Kings of Athera, and sucessfully created the Council of Kings. It is known that there was in fact a single man, the First Marshal of the Cal who did unite the Cal and was responsible for turning the tide in the war, further events may be the result of other men seeking legitamcy through the legacy of the Immortal.

In Art

Often represented in art the Immortal is a cornerstone figure in the History of the Cal-Atheran. Many of the Cal have some memorial of him, be it a statue or tapestry. Yet all depictions of this man share many common threads, the first being his size. It is clear that this figure is thought to be a large man, but no more so than many of his soldiers, and is always depicted as one of them rather than above them. The second common thread is a lack of detail. There are no depictions of the Immortal's face, nor stories that tell of it. Always obscured, shadowed or covered it is thought that the Immortal sought to disappear into history until he was needed again.
