Balon

Preamble 

Balon is an Island nation situated in the North East of Kyrila, on the Teal Sea. Made up of two Islands (Simply, North and South Island) the southern Island has long been abandoned during the The Kyrilian Civil War 1183 -1214 IME and all inhabitants reside on the North Island now.
Formally a nation within the expanding Kyrilian Empire the Balonese were well noted for their dedication to their role within the Empire and its acceptance of their religious beliefs; the diety Bahamut.  It was with religious persecution after the The Portal War 1095 - 1100 IME, or so the Triarch and the Balonese history Party Line goes, that independence was declared and The Kyrilian Civil War 1183 -1214 IME began.  
Separation from the Empire was officially accepted by the Kyrilian Parliament and King, Constanius III, in 1214 IME after threats of intervention from the neighbouring Dwarven states of Bhornlo, Khornuhm and Vimbor. Who were enraged by the destruction of the Portal of Balon and the fact that trade was suffering greatly.
Current relations have cooled somewhat between the Empire and Balon and both states have sent forces to Iyathlia and Belmoor to join the Alliances fight against the Corruption.

Settlements 

Balon consists of 3 main cities (Triarch Cities), Tont, Agover and Suburn, with central agricultural and mercantile towns of Sandhold, Suncrest and Falcross in the Interior. A 4th City on the Southern Island, Kiberath, was destroyed during the Civil War and the town of Silk Side was abandoned after a plague in the same time period.

Government 

Unlike many of the surrounding states, Balon is run by 3 Triarchs, descendants of the 3 families that led Balon to Independence during the Kyrilian Civil War and govern from their seats in the Triarch fortified cities of Tont, Agover and Suburn. Decisions for local matters are dealt with independently, with the island being split in 3 sections, but trade, foreign affairs, and war are decided on a majority vote basis between the Triarchs.

In certain instances, especially in times of war, a Grand Triarch* is elected by the people and all decisions are made by him, or her, until the allotted time of crisis has ended.
