Golden Fibres

Properties

Origin & Source

Totora

A swamp plant that can grow up to 20ft from a 10ft water depth along the banks of the lake.

History & Usage

Everyday use

This fiber has been used to weave clothes, mats, furniture and bags. As a bag, it is used to package and transport everything from corn to wool to sand.

Industrial Use

Infrastructure

The reed people on Reed Town were the first to utilize the bundled dried reeds in their boats, crafts, hunting traps and floating land.   Innoit Estate adopted it for food and fertilizer production. But itwould become best known for tying ropes for the many many bridges that straddle the gorges and gullies all across the Four Corners.

Refinement

  1. Workers start by combing the reeds over spikes to soften the fibers
  2. After, they throw the raw yuta into a spreader that separates the strands and forms them into large rolls that are placed back into the spreader for more detangling
  3. These wheels are transferred to an enclosed area and covered with cloth for about 2 days
  4. Then pinned rollers soften them and workers remove any impurities
  5. The other end spews out ribbon like strands called Slivers;
  6. To reduce their width and thickness, they then go through a process called "Drawing" which involves cramping the fibers to enhance their strength and flexibility until they're ready for "Spinning"
  7. They are twisted and lengthened into spools
    • Yarn consists of one strand while twine is made with two
  8. The next step is "Winding": when any spinning errors are corrected to improve performance

Distribution

Storage

The fiber is most commonly used in making essential sacks for regional trade and in transporting nearly all crops. Many such full and empty bags are kept in warehouses, large and small, all over the empire.
