Infinite Rift Building / Landmark in Fortuun | World Anvil

Infinite Rift

The tavern of the Infinite Rift is a unique idea constructed up by Alin and with the permission of the High Mage Haemir Keyrieth, it is a tavern and inn combination that has no physical space, existing within the Astral Plane and many, MANY doors all over the city of Aivyael for anyone to come in at any time. While the tavern is mostly used by adventurers looking for a place to stay, there may be a few civilians coming in from time to time to enjoy the wonderful magic of the Infinite Rift.
The tavern part of the building is large, and well built, but capable of expanding to accommodate more guests as needed. Tables and chairs are stored in a side room and brought out with the wave of a hand as more and more people need seats to drink their worries and days away. Magical lights float through the air, illuminating the entire atmosphere so as to accommodate races without darkvision. For smaller races, such as gnomes and goblins, there are little stool that they can ride around on that just simply float in any direction that's needed for them.
The inn portion of the building is located above the tavern, and is accessible via a spiral staircase that is located right beside the bar. In this section, the hallway appears to be infinite, even though the end can be reached, it can expands and add more rooms to it as needed, just like the tavern below. There are more than enough rooms with enough accommodations for everyone who needs a rest here.
The taverns prices often run a little high, but the silver and gold spent here is well worth it, as the experience here simply can't be beat.

Drinks

Astral Blue (5 sp)
A drink that looks very odd, as though looking through a hole in reality to the Astral Plane itself. Tastes of blueberry, black raspberry, and nightshade (not poisonous), though some may describe the taste as if tasting the outside. [To the DMs, it looks similar to the static pattern effect found in shows like "Chowder" and "Ren and Stimpy"]

The Clock (4 sp)
WARNING
: Limit one per customer, would not recommend if planning on going on an adventure soon.
The Clock is an odd drink, with a liquid brass coloring to it, the taste is, somewhat basic, with perhaps a bit of a rivery taste to it. Buy it, and find out why its called The Clock.

The Infinity (2 sp)
A black drink with white speckles in it, the black raspberry flavor of the night sky will taste like the open wilderness as you lay down and stare right at them. If you look close enough, you can see the constellations themselves in the drink.

For the price of 1 gp, we can serve any drink in a special glass of holding, which almost triples the amount of drink you get.

Food

Elven Hair (3 sp)

Thin spaghetti noodles boiled to soft perfection, and topped with a creamy alfredo sauce that just melts in your mouth.

The Dreadnought (3 gp)

Incredibly large crab meat, it's enough to feed an entire party of adventurers, a group of 12 gnomes, or maybe an orc and a half. Served with a side of creamy butter, dig in.

When the Seasons Change (1 sp)

A salad that was inspired by the Eladrin, and has leaves that change between the season themselves. Served with cheese and fresh tomato, pour the everchanging sauce on top and watch as the flavor changes along with the leaves.

Don't worry, you're plates will clean themselves up when you're done, just say
the word 'whisk' and watch as they whisk themselves away to the back.

Purpose / Function

The original intention was to be a large safehouse for the owner during his travels of the land, but he soon fell out of love with the lifestyle, and wanted to settle down a bit. Using his expertise as an adventurer, he took a rather small loan to buy enough materials to support a tavern and built a fun place for adventurers to meet up in and discuss things.

Architecture

The building itself is in a pocket dimension, a realm between the planes of existence. Though the exterior doesn't exactly... exist, the inside is as real as it can be. The main room is a large, almost 500 sq ft room, which can expand as is needed by the circumstances. Beyond that, there is the bar, and nearby the stairs to the second floor. This floor is where the inn is. Looking down the hall it seems to be almost infinite, with doors and large spaces separating them, giving plenty of room for inhabitants inside.
Inside every room are windows to the outside, which don't open, but show off the Astral Plane. The dancing lights spell is cast in almost every room, making sure the tavern is well lit for every race.

Defenses

Should there be conflict, the entire building can shift around and teleport people places where they can be easily removed from the place of others. Doors can open and sudden guards can pour in to arrest anyone who might end up causing issues. Beyond this, the owner is also an archmage, who has enough spell slots to deal with any rowdy guests.

History

Alin came back to Aivyael one day and practically set up shop. He asked his old wizened mentor, the High Mage, about setting up a new tavern in town, one that has no physical location and could easily show up... anywhere. The two got to work on planning out a few locations the doors could show up in, including one within the guard barracks for them to have easy access to the bar and if there's ever an emergency. After setting up shop, Alin began to spread the word, handing out posters and fliers about the locations of the doors one could use to gain access to the tavern. The first night was a smash hit, as everyone wanted to come and check out this new tavern idea. But a fad is a fad, and interest would die down quickly if there wasn't more going on. So Alin made sure to go and gather some quests around the town, make sure that his tavern was THE place for adventurers looking for some jobs. Over time, the tavern became known as the place to stop for adventurers.

Tourism

A large majority of the customers the tavern inn gets are adventuring types. Just about any adventuring party quickly finds out about this place, one way or another. The entire building is capable of holding just about everyone if it so needs, with guaranteed security from other parties who might not have the best intentions.
