Duchy of the Magelaw (The Magelaw)
The Duchy of the Magelaw is a Magocracy, for the most part. The origins of this domain is when a war mage know as Minilan Firnargi . He and his followers helped stop a goblinoid invasion and was rewarded a rump barony. This was the first time in the history of the Kingdom that a domain was directly ruled by a mage. The inhabitants of the domain were skeptical of being ruled by mages, but the mages were educated and intelligent. They ruled efficiently and fairly. Minilan also made a habit of inviting experts in fields he wanted to know more about to his court. This knowledge further helped his reign, making his domain very efficient. He also invited many temples to his domain, as they helped with vital functions that a kingdom needed to function.
His neighbors were not happy that a mage was given domain. The planned to wipe is new domain away. Unfortunately for them, Minilan was clever and had many competent followers. He outplayed his opponents, sometimes not even needing to fight open battles in defeat them sometimes. Other domains saw the skill and expertise of the mages, especially as the domain started to expand, choosing to become vassals of the rising power, keep their power, and benefit from the rule of the mages. So, while mages hold many of the lordships, many knight and lords still keep their holdings. Minilan has even given domains to loyal knights. He does not discriminate, he rewards results, competency and loyalty.
Minilan left his duchy after the death of his wife, leaving it in the hands of his son, Menalium. Menalium has ruled well so far. His father prepared him well and has the loyalty of his father's retainers.
Magic has flurished in this realm and improve the life of everyday people. Many of their inventions are used in other lands. To help facilitate magical development, a large magical academy has been constructed. Mages from all of Dunland come to learn at this school.
The two largest cities are Sevendor and Vanador. Sevendor is the original domain granted to Minilan. Minilan constructed a massive fortress there and many magical events take place in the city. The area is heavily populated and defended. It is where Menalium currently rules from. Vanador is known as the city of mages. It is where the magical academy is located. It didn't exist before Minilan and is now one of the biggest cities on the continent. Many mages call this city home and magic can be found in nearly every part of life. The city also consists of a wide array of races, adding to it's wonder. Large numbers of elves and dwarves took part in its founding, making their own district. Gnomes built onto the dwarven district. Dragonborn and Genasi are also well represented in the city with districts starting to pop up. Any race could be found in this city. It is one of the truest melting pots in Dunland.

Hyrmann and the Magelaw have had no large conflicts between the two. The Magelaw even hired mercenary companies from the Hyrmann Dukedom as it expand before it was a duchy.

The prince is upset with the rise of the mages and sees them as a treat, though the Magelaw seems to have no ambitions on Castal
