Like many who grew up within Maganoasia, Jax learned that nothing is free. Jax grew up with a spark of fire magic, something considered rare amongst the Maganoasian people. His magic tore him from his family, and even as he was forced to use it, he resented his gift. This resentment grew until he learned to hate all magic.
His slavers noticed this, offering him a simple deal. Find magic users to replace him, and they would free him of his contract. And so he did, heading to Abomoria to hunt for frayed magic users, eventually earning him his freedom. He didn't stop there however, instead hunting magic users whenever he could find them.
This was how he ended up working amongst a group of similar minded individuals. Hunting down prospective adventuerers within Rotherhithe and sending them back to Tawdrymeadow. It wasn't until Elpis that Jax was finally stopped.
He returned to Cherryroth defeated, his new family reduced to just himself and the ranger Hephanis. Yet with a stroke of luck, he encountered a different group of individuals that were chasing his once enemies. Jax convinced the Glowing Sun Mercenaries to him and his friend alongside them, to help him get revenge on his own family.
It took weeks, but eventually they managed to track down Elpis with the full intent of confronting them. Lily and Rafael managed to talk the Glowing Sun Mercenaries into standing down, and Jax was forced to leave after having lost his remaining family member, vowing to return as he did so.
