Travelling to Marecoro

The party goes on a road trip to the Province of Marecoro to get involved with the local rebels in the City of Salcaer. Along the way, they encountered some peculiar sights.

Town of Staleshoal

Here in Staleshoal, the grimy fishing town, Cassius took a bite from the hallucinogenic teal carp, believing it to be a fake. This rendered him with deep and strange visions. Seeing these effects, Gloria purchased a considerable amount.

Mournival Tent

While the party is camping, they see the Mournival is on the way and also comes to a stop. The party heads inside to also find they have a show available:

Critic: Ladies and Gentlemen, our protagonists this evening, both the good and the bad.

Sage: What have they been up to, what will they do, and what could they become?

Critic: That is, should things play out accordingly and people actually heed my advice!

Sage: Cassius Scarthorpe!

The spotlight then flashes onto two different versions of Cassius, one bright and hopeful statesman, the other a bitter and watchful tyrant.

Critic: Ah, I see the potential to be just like your father, or better yet my favorite trope, the corrupted idealist. Oh, if only the right people were in power, nothing bad would ever go wrong! Best case scenario you become what the people fear but also what superiors fear as well!

Sage: Influence works both ways, does it not? Assuming he embodies the light affinity, why, Corderans may for once no longer be tortured souls. Though the odds are quite significant, the payoff could mean revitalizing not justCorderan culture, but the continent’s as well!

Critic: Daniel Cognatio!

The lights flash on, revealing a brave mage on side while a shy scholar is on the other.

Sage: These books of heroism don’t have to be fictional anymore. You have the capacity and knowledge to go on daring adventures! Your name could be renowned in overcoming the Artisans. You have the knowledge, use it!

Critic: However, books are safe. What skills do you really have? Mimicking the actions of your heroes don’t copy well into reality. If you really wanted to stir fear in your foes, orchestrate from the shadows and let others do the work for you.

Sage: Gloria Fierro!

The lights flicker on to show a twitchy-eyed and armed variant of Gloria in tattered uniform, while the other is stern yet softer in appearance.

Critic: Ah, my favorite! So much carnage, so much loyalty to the cause! But it’s not entirely the case now was it? Something went horribly wrong and I’m sure you will find those who mislead you and make them pay. You’ll show them, you’ll show them all!

Sage: I don’t think indulging on madness is a guaranteed outcome. After all, she has seen war, has she not? She knows the cost of life, she knows that once a gun is fired, it cannot be undone. Through caution and acceptance, perhaps it could cultivate something more?

Critic: John Wrench

The lights flash and there is a curious inventor tapping his chin with a pencil, and the other a billowing and cunning wraith-like form with a malicious grin.

Sage: There is so much talent to be seen, is there not? Inventions, creations, gadgets, and gizmos alike! This one could cultivate so much quality of life to a prosperous era! Look at what life has to offer!

Critic: More like what shouldn’t be squandered. You see it in his eyes like I do. There is a cunning mastermind beneath the smarmy charm. There is only more, more, more. Nothing could be a greater catharsis to him than seeing that green line go up!

There is then a silent pause before the lights go out. Flicking back on, they reveal the Critic, “That is all for today’s showing, come again another time.”

City of Salcaer

We live in a time of prosperity. The burden of heavy duties can be deferred to machinery, the use of steam engines means more production can take place, allowing more things to be swiftly created. The only flaw I can see in this day and age is that decadence arises. Our enemies would want us to sit back and gorge ourselves on the fruits of our labor till we become fat and sick. That is why it is more important than ever for every Corderan to have a sense of discipline. While the Dovers believe themselves victors and despoilers of our people, we need only wait for them to be drunk on their naivety and leisure. That is the time we step in and gain vengeance for the grievances they have yet to pay more! So, do not sit idly by! Do not relent now! There will come a time we need only kick down Doven’s door and the entire rotten structure will collapse!

— Octavian Hargrove

On entering the city, the party went about collecting insights and investigating the state of the city.

Cassius

Cassius manages to pull favors to meet with Governor Ortheus with the upcoming Vengeful March coming about. During this time, Cassius uncovers that those still loyal to the prior Octmor regime, alongside old icons even, have been stirring trouble within the city. While conversing with the Governor, the Artisan Incarnate briefly interrupted to inquire that all logistics for the upcoming parade were stable.

Daniel

During this time, Daniel spends a long and well-deserved reprieve in the library, gladly enjoying books after so long.

Wrench

Wrench meets with Filious Fantome at a store in Tailoring and Clothworks. Filious believes that much of the Rebel's actions are pointless. The city wouldn't be cracked down on so hard if the locals were not so resistant to the change of authority. If anything, the Artisans are a boon for providing much-needed stability, if not even better growth, compared to what Octmor had done economic-wise.

Nightfall Assembly

The party spends time hatching a plan to showcase how the Artisans are not untouchable as they think they are. During this planning time, however, a messenger got shot by an unknown attacker. From what the party could investigate, this messenger was a trusted emissary of sorts between the rebels and the government to coordinate on where and when not to strike at places to somewhat help keep their infighting tame. Now with this messenger dead, it can only mean things could get worse potentially.
