Scimitar Cat Species in Flightless | World Anvil

Scimitar Cat

Basic Information

Anatomy

Scimitar cats have the basic body plan of a large cat, with some unique qualities. Their forelimbs are longer than their back limbs, giving their backs a sloped silhouette. Their back legs are fairly squat and almost plantigrade. They have short tails, only a foot or so long.   Its front fangs are smaller than those of the Sabre-Tooth, but they have serrated edges. Their incisors and canines are designed for gripping and puncturing, while its scimitar fangs are designed for slashing.   Their face has a large, squarish nasal opening that allows for greater oxygen intake and helps them run quickly.

Ecology and Habitats

They live in higher altitudes and lower latitudes - anywhere it's cold. They live in the mountains during the spring and summer, and come down to the lowland forests during later autumn and winter. They thrive in cold, snowy climates with sparse trees.
