The Oldest Town

Wasteland is known to be mostly empty with ruins of old buildings here and there. People have inhabited some of those places, renovated some of the buildings and formed small communities, but for the most part the old buildings have been destroyed. But one place is different. Somewhere in Wasteland there is a small town that is still very well preserved. Of course, it’s thousands of years old by now and what’s left of it is barely few streets, but these seemed to have survived the apocalyptic times very well.

These streets have seen better days

What is it?

This settlement appears to have been some sort of a town center. It consists of basically a square of four streets with buildings on each side and a small park in the middle of that square, behind the buildings. The buildings only reach 2 or 3 stories in height and have shops on the bottom floor and apartments on top. All of this seems to be remarkably well preserved. Though damage has been done to the exterior, windows and roofs, the furniture inside is still where it used to be before the apocalypse. Of course, it’s now all dusty and damaged, but it offers an eerie window in the time before the apocalypse.

The shops are still stocked with the items they used to sell, everything from clothes to books, handmade items, office supplies, and even food. Most food by now was snatched and eaten by the critters trying to survive the apocalypse, but you can still find food containers strewn around the ancient grocery store. Some of the more unique and better preserves items were transported to the museum of pre-apocalyptic history in East T@Ö#Ä3, but most of it was left intact.

What happens there today?

Today this area serves as sort of a museum itself. It attracts tourists as well as young history and archeology students. It is, however, very closed off and only allows for a very limited number of visitors. It is remarkable enough that it stood the test of time for so long and we can’t let people just come in and out of here like it’s a shopping mall. Only small groups of people are led through by a tour guide and only a handful of the buildings may be entered at all. There’s no guarantee that something won’t just collapse any day now and it’s too dangerous to stay here for long.
