The Black Road
What is this road?
There is a road connecting two of Wasteland’s settlements. It’s a long road, maybe not the longest, but definitely not the shortest. What’s there to say about this road really? Seemingly unremarkable, it’s no more than a dirt road. A trail created by time and many people walking along it.
What makes this road special are the two lines of trees, one on each side of the road, following the trail all the way from one end to the other. Black dead trees, as can be seen all across Wasteland, but if you look closely, these trees aren’t as dead as one might think.
Blackbirds
If you look closely, you’ll see many small shiny trinkets hanging from these trees. Everything from spoons to small mirrors, from jewelry to coins and anything else small and shiny. These trinkets indicate that blackbirds live in these trees - blackbirds really love anything shiny, and love to decorate their homes.
So as much as this road may seem lonely, you’re never alone here. You’re always being watched by the birds, hiding inside of these trees. Watching. Waiting.
Is it safe?
Because of such a high population of blackbirds, this road has earned quite a spooky paranormal reputation. Many believe that death always wanders this road, and many taking it went missing, never to be seen again. Sure, people went missing here, and no road in Wasteland is truly safe, but is there any truth to this road’s reputation?
Some truly believe it, but many say there is a much more reasonable explanation here, though not less unsettling. The Blackest Road just happens to connect two of the larger Wasteland settlements, meaning a lot of people with valuable goods will travel the road. Surely blackbirds cough on to this, knowing that many lone travelers means a better chance for them to rob them of their valuables. Though not too spooky or paranormal, it is a simple fact that many people traveling this road have fallen victim to corvid crime. If you do travel this road, please do travel in a group with all of your most valuable items secured.
