IRL Save Button

Anyone who has ever done some work on a computer (which is every single person in our world) knows what a save button is. A very important button, that saves all of your work, and prevents you from losing anything important. But did you know that the save button image used to be a real physical item at some point of history?

What was it for?

IRL save button was definitely related to saving documents; this is why we still use this image today as a save button. But how exactly it worked isn’t exactly sure. We do know it was somehow able to transfer all of your digital data into a physical form that you could carry with you, no matter if you were near a computer. This was apparently also convenient if you had to move information from one computer to the other. Which is a little bit strange, as it is the easiest thing in the world to save all of your data to an online storage space and access it from any kind of device - or maybe send it via email if necessary. Surely there has to be something more to it.

Currently, all of the top researchers and computer scientists agree that this must have worked as some sort of an inventory. You could save anything on this IRL save button - anything like files, photos, books or even personal possessions, and easily transfer them to your computer. Similarly, you could get any of these items out of your computer as well. This way, you could easily send anything back and forth via email. If you were out and it started raining, you could just have your friend email you an umbrella that you could then download from the computer with the help of this IRL save button. Well, at least that’s what our smartest computer scientists believe.

How exactly all of this works is unknown to us, even those fancy hex bots from District 708/34-87 are having a hard time figuring that one out.

It would be nice though..

Out of all the strange and extremely simple technology ancient people used, this seems like a pretty great invention. Sadly, it’s also one of the few that we just can't figure out and replicate despite all of our advanced technology. It’s astonishing to think that a primitive civilization such as ancient people could figure out transferring information and items from digital to physical form and back with such ease, and yet, this knowledge eludes us. No documents or descriptions on how to create and use this device were ever found, do we’re on our own.

But don’t worry, companies such as BunTech are trying really hard to replicate this technology, and have actually come up with their first prototype of inventory.

What a comical interpretation of what future folk may think about the floppy disc! Made me giggle a bit. Very entertaining and intriguing article. Thanks for sharing!
