Disappearing Cross
If you spend enough time near Haunted Forest, you may notice a cross in the distance among the trees. It’s really hard to say exactly where this cross is located, because it seems to be regularly disappearing and reappearing in new spots. Because of this people have named it Disappearing Cross.
Origin
Not much is known about the origins of this cross. No one really knows who first made it, when or why, or why it keeps disappearing and reappearing randomly. Who is moving it around and why? Is it the souls of the ones who were left trapped in the forest after the apocalypse, or is it the dreaded homunculi believed to live in the forest? We just don’t know.
One this is sure though; crosses seemed to be frequently used in graveyards in the past, and still are used today in our Graveyard. They have always been a symbol of death and so it’s no surprise that a cross would be appearing in the place known to be populated with so many souls of the dead ancient people.
Disappearing Cross Today
Today, Dissapearing Cross is the most present in lives of people living in wasteland, near Haunted Forest. People here who dare to get a bit too close to the forest may catch a glimpse of the mysterious cross - or they may not. It all depends on where the cross is at a certain moment. Because it’s so hard to locate, many people outside of Wasteland don’t even believe it exists. It’s considered to be just one of the weird tales people of Wasteland like to tell.
Nevertheless, many claim to have seen it, and many more are attempting each day to see it, or even get near it. Coincidentally enough, the cross most often only appears to people who least expect it, and might not have a chance to even take a picture of it. It’s not too surprising that in a mysterious and almost otherworldly area like this strange things tend to happen. People often report their phones running out of battery and shutting completely off, and if they do work it’s nearly impossible to take a proper photo there anyway. The area under the black sun is often dark and you should have proper equipment if you want to take photos in these conditions. But this will probably run out of battery too. And with no real sun no solar powered charging is available either.
Surely all of this makes sense, but skeptics aren’t convinced. It’s almost too convenient how hard it is to spot Disappearing Cross and take an actual good picture of it. It’s almost like there never was a cross.
What does it mean?
No matter though, residents of Wasteland know very well that there is in fact a cross that seems to disappear and reappear at random. The real question that remains to be answered it, what does all this even mean? Is it an omen? Is it just random? Is seeing the cross good or bad? No one can really tell as seeing the cross never seemed to have any real consequences on the life of the person seeing it, or their close ones.
A lot of people still think that seeing the cross can only be a bad sign so they try to avoid going too close to Haunted Forest. Hanging out too close to it is not a good idea either way.
Other people continue to be too fascinated by it to just leave it alone. Many adventures of Wasteland and tgohab travel to Haunted Forest and camp outside of it for day in hopes to see the cross. Some of them are lucky enough to see it, but many aren’t. With the size of the forest, Disappearing Cross could be anywhere at any time so you have to be really lucky to find yourself in just the right place and time to see it.
The only question that remains now is: Do you dare to go look for Disappearing Cross? Do you? Hm?
