Basic Information

Anatomy

The totshaho is a quadruped species. They have a ridged head, short neck, and a sleek body covered in short, mottled brown fur. Their ridged head is actually round with black eyes with a pointed nose and triangular ears that have a 360 degree of motion. This ability to fully rotate their ears allows for superior directional hearing.

Powerful, almost furless, legs end in five digits that have evolved the ability to hyperextend allowing the animal to climb even the most smooth, vertical surfaces. Their prehensile tail also aids in their climbing ability. Their toes have a sucker-like pad arrangement surrounded by a ring of small, retractable claws. This structure of suckers and claws are not used for climbing but for hunting, along with their bite.

An individual totshaho can reach a size of 0.6 to 1 meter in height at the shoulder and up to 2.5 meters in length, from nose to tail. Totshaho weigh in at 54 to 99 kg for males, and 29 to 63 kg for females.

Genetics and Reproduction

Female totshaho reach maturity at 3 to 5 years of age. They can reproduce every two years until they reach the age of 7. Males are able to reproduce between the ages of 4 and 8. Totshaho give birth to one to five young that are cared for until they reach maturity.

Both the males and females are involved in caring for the young. Typically, one the young are born, the males remain at the den to protect and watch over the young while females hunt for the family.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The totshaho are best known for their sense of hearing. Their triangular ears allow for a 360-degree range of motion. This allows the animal to rotate its ears in different directions while remaining visually focused on a single target. The ears can also independently rotate in different directions and fans open to catch faint sounds.
