Kintu Species in Fiven Chronicles | World Anvil

Kintu

A common domesticated animal found in the lands around the Crystal Bay or Inner Sea areas. Kintus are often kept for pest control, companionship, safety or some combination of all three.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A kintu is a winged quadruped with a coat of fine, short fur that covers its entire body from head to dual spiked tail. Its head is triangular-shaped with curled horns on either side that protect its ears. The triangular shape, with the point starting at its usually dark snout, allows for the animal to better hunt prey in burrows.   The horns have a dual purpose as they are both protection for the animal's head and help act as echolocation amplifiers. They aid in hearing subsonic sounds by acting as 'cups' around the animal's ears.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Kintus are primarily carnivorous but do occasionally eat vegetable types such as squash.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Kintus are very social creatures. Their typical social arrangement is a group called a 'council'. All members of the council share resources for protection, food and safety. Domesticated kintus form strong bonds with their owners, considering them their 'council'.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Of all the usual senses, a Kintu's sense of hearing is the most advanced. They emit subsonic calls while hunting which they, in turn, detect and use as a form of echolocation to find prey or check for nearby threats.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
A kintu's muscular form is covered in a fine, short fur that has a natural silken texture due to natural oils. This aids the kintu in flight or while running. The base color of the animal's fur is a brownish-tan, with stripe rings that range in color from blue-gray, light brown or dark green. The kintu's wings have less fur with a rubbery texture. Their wings are always a shade of olive green.
