1. Blacksmith's Legacy

"The Black Armory predates this City, I'll have you know. It predates the Collapse. Its legacy is buried in the past, and I doubt anybody will ever be able to dredge it up. Least of all you." - Ada-1
A reclusive Exo woman in the Tower named Ada-1 laments of an ancient technology lost to the forces of the Darkness during the Collapse; a technology she claims was able to create some of the most powerful weapons humanity had ever seen. She mentioned their existence with a cryptic blasé as though she didn't believe you could ever find them. Additionally, she insisted, it was for the better; she didn't want any Guardian to make use of these storied weapons lest their legacy is tarnished by the blood of conquest. However, the notion of greater power is enough to intrigue even the greenest of Vanguard operatives. With the story rooted all the way back in the Golden Age, not many remain alive that would know of it. Some investigation would be required into the history of this so-called Black Armory.

Structure

Exposition

The Black Armory was a Golden Age organization known for manufacturing military equipment, mainly firearms. They had research and development facilities around the colonies called forges where they would experiment with new levels of weapon efficacy. The location of these forges have long since been lost through the Collapse, but information about the location of one on Earth surfaced after the Red War. All that is known is that the rumored location is near the Cabal Firebase Hades in the EDZ, currently occupied by Red Legion loyalists.

Conflict

The Red Legion still occupy a sizable area of the European Dead Zone, as do the Fallen of House Dusk. Both these parties hold the technology of the Black Armory in high demand, as it offers them an opportunity to stand up to the Guardians.

Rising Action

The investigative process of the fireteam as they travel to Firebase Hades and attempt to locate the forge. Discovering that Siviks is also pursuing these forges.

Climax

Discovering the location of the forge and entering it. Doing battle with Ghalak the Colossus.

Falling Action

Combing the Forges for data. Finding the Mysterious Box and an Exo databank.

Resolution

Slipping away to find a way back to Trostland. Bringing the data they collected back to Ada-1 and the Cryptarchy.

Components

Goals

Search for the forge to advance Bentley's career & hopefully uncover a portion of his past.

Hooks

The appearance of Siviks and his subsequent exit, coupled with reports from the Red Legion consoles in the forge that note activity and possible forge locations on Nessus that have been blocked by this Fallen.

The Mysterious Box recovered by the party and its first key the party can create with the forge should be of great interest to the party as well. If the party presents this to Ada-1 along with the Exo memory bank, she will start to recall pieces of information about its contents and how to access them.

Stakes

Ghalak the Colossus loudly proclaims in Ulurant to his soldiers that defeating these Guardians and keeping the forge secure will allow the Cabal access to limitlessly potent weaponry that can claw the Red Legion back to their former glory. Avoiding this should be desirable for obvious reasons.

Moral Quandaries

While traveling, the party will need to contend mostly with Fallen adversaries. They will need to choose to fight them or try to convert them to House Light. They will also have to make choices about helping humans during this time.

Uncovering the forges and hearing of their power, returning to Ada-1 should give the players pause as to her motives. She does not like the company of Lightbearers, and she should sound almost hostile to them. They will need to choose if they should continue their investigation of the forges.

Cruel Tricks

Failing to fully investigate the Forge, the party can miss out on the actual Mysterious Box. This would lead to the item falling into Sivik's hands and the party would need to secure it later in the quest.

Red Herrings

The main red herring here in this phase is that the lake in Bentley's vision had anything to do with the location of the forge. It was coincidental that Firebase Hades is located on the shore of a lake, the forge is not underneath it nor is the forge close to it.

Past Events

Volundr Forge was the main Black Armory forge facility managed by Clan Rasumssen. It was abandoned during the Collapse and buried naturally in the cataclysm. Helga Rasmussen's notes include blueprints for the Jotunn exotic, which Ada-1 can construct for the party over a period of 2 weeks. The notes also elaborate on security measures being implemented for Bergusia Clan's forge since it is remaining on Earth. It talks about Helga's desire to provide humankind with their own BALMUNG, a weapon they can create in the Bergusia forge from the "keys" they collect among the other clans' arsenals once this threat the Warmind is predicting descends.
