Geographic Origin and Distribution

Gnomes come from two very distinct population centers, with wildly disparate cultures. First, there are the technologically-focused gnomes that live in the volcanic Ig-Sicino Hills region of central Liassang. Second are the nature-loving, broadly talented gnomes whose cultural capital is in Lorar Nov on the southern shore of Timir.
Other races sometimes call the Ig-Sicino gnomes "rock gnomes," and the southern gnomes "forest gnomes," but the gnomes themselves eschew such labels. While they recognize the distinct cultural schism in their people, they feel it is important to remind themselves, and others, that their differences are more a matter of personal choice than of immutable biological differences. Thus, they tend to refer to their counterparts with inefficiently descriptive terminology, rather than adopting easy phrases that make the divide seem like a possible rivalry.
