The Feast of Lakom

History

Lakom is a solemn historical holiday. It commemorates the tragic loss of Isotim Island and all of its inhabitants in the year 187 Ancient.

This holiday is often associated with hummingbirds as there was a substantial population of the birds on the island. The birds attained a protected status after the disaster.

Execution

Traditions include mock duels and historical reenactments. It's celebrated in the same manner all over Feralia.

Components and tools

There are public feasts in the town squares that all the people contribute to. Nobles have their own feasts, but rather than the rich food they would normally eat at such a gathering tradition mandates that they eat simpler food in order to properly commemorate the tragedy and not anger to gods.

Observance

This holiday is celebrated shortly after the fall equinox. Historical records show that news of Isotim Island's tragic fate didn't reach the mainland until around that time and so it was decreed by a gathering of the heads of the five priesthoods and the five rulers at the time that this tragedy would be commemorated no later than four days after the fall equinox. The exact date of the holiday would be at the discretion of the reigning monarch, but it was written into law that it must be observed and the high priests could punish a monarch if they didn't do so.
