Marr Ogren

To Prove Oneself

Like many orcs, was born without a name or purpose. Given to a cruel land to suffer and learn to survive, he struggled just as all born in the deadlands do. Referred to as a pup by his elders, he would eventually earn his name in the Rite of Strength. The ritual is meant to test an orc's strength, and thus their value in their tribe. Legends say that when he walked into the arena, the young warrior had a keen spark in his eye. Pitted against a war-raptor, he chose to walk in without weapon or armor, intending to dominate the beast with sheer strength alone. The battle was brutal and bloody, but the winner was clear. In its final moments, a battle cry shook the arena as the orc took the raptor by the throat, slowly choking it to death with his bare hands. This vicious act earned him the name Marr, or "Brute", a name that he felt spat in the face of his strength and honor. He refused to be seen as a mindless warrior, and every action he would take moving forward would be to throw off the given name.   Marr would rise through the ranks of his tribe quickly, his ability and natural talent for observing his raid targets and learning from them gave him a level of reverence amongst his fellow warriors, they trusted him to lead them into battle and they were never disappointed. While the spoils of his raids were split evenly, he always demanded to take any manner of scrolls, books, or information that he could find, despite not being able to read common at first, he would teach himself the language through captured slaves and his own intelligence. The literature he most referenced and read over, time and time again, was "The Adventures of Galanthia Einar". Inspired by her rise to glory and fame, he would place bounties on similar stories and adventures, insatiably tearing through novel after novel of human history. Eventually, Marr would find the books detailing the "Great War", and was floored by the human's ability to free themselves from such a terrible land. Seeing relations in the current situations of the Orcs, Marr would spend the next 10 years of his life in an unwavering campaign to unite the orc tribes under his banner. Eventually, his conquest would allow him to take the ancient name of the first orc war chief, Ogren. With the promise of a new orc empire, Marr now waits for the opportune moment to strike.

Trophies

Marr puts a great deal of weight on symbolism, having a level of respect and honor for the meaning of things and people's philosophies. He famously has trained plenty of war raptors into pulling his war chariot, to him a humble reminder of what led him to his current moment. Marr refuses to allow any of his generals to lead unless they show a meaningful level of understanding of these metaphors, famously decapitating one of his most promised rising generals for failing to understand the meaning behind his chariot. His philosophies have been instilled into his children, and he has allowed each of them to rise into his generals, each with their own ideals and aspirations to ascent to war chief. Ogren himself, sees war as an opprotunity to advance, to achieve true freedom, and power for a dying people.
