As a child Maria spent most of her time in her familiy's mines, making a connection with Miner 8. During their time together Miner taught her about how the Homunculi were being treated. On March 30th, Maria confronted her father & helped the Hommunculi start a riot. This riot led to the collapse of the Dougal's mine & their stock being trashed. Unbeknowst to her Miner survived, going on a journey of self discovery & researching how the Holy Grail War worked. Miner discovered that the next war was supposed to take place in 2025 & began preperations. Maria, as punishment, was turned into a hommunculus, being kept alive via magecraft for the purpose of becoming the next grail vessel. Having been fully formed, she was transported to NYC where her body was discovered by Miner 8 again. Miner used her to gain their wish, finally putting Maria's soul to rest.

History
Maria was the only daughter of Bradley Dougal, making her the heir of the Dougal family. Bradley trying to prep for the next Grail war had no time to spend raising her & so left the job up to his failed experiment, Painter 1, who Maria nicknamed Theo. On March 30th, Maria & another hommunculus, Miner 8, started a riot within the Dougal's mine. This riot led to the collapse of the Dougal's mine & their stock being trashed. The only known surviving Hommunculus being Theo. Theo was then sent to Wuhan in order to participate in the Holy Grail War, never to see Maria again.

Maria was the one who gave Painter 1 the name Theo & often referred to him as uncle Theo.
Relationship Reasoning
Theo has known Maria since she was a child, thus they feel a great kinship with each other. Due to her father's standoffishness Theo basically raised her instead, often acting as a nanny for her. Thanks to this Maria sees Theo as her uncle.
