Skills in Fate of Empire | World Anvil

Skills

As we have already established, the Fate of Empire game is based on a somewhat modified version of the FATE Core rules. Much of what has been done is a simple reskinning of the basic rules to offer a bit more genre-specific flavor; however, some changes amount to a new Extra or two (such as our magic systems) or variant rules, as required.

We have done our best to clarify when such changes have been made, but as with all such questions, feel free to ask the GM if questions arise. For basic rules, we have linked skills to the Fate Core system resource document (SRD).

How do Skills Work?

Skills are the mechanical means by which the character interacts with the world. Rated by the use of the ladder, skills are typically rated from Mediocre (+0) to Great (+4) for beginning characters. These ratings then add to the Fate Dice (or 4dF) to determine the result of the character's effort.

Skills are intentionally vague, in order to offer the greatest possible flexibility. Thus, a person with a good Drive skill might be a race car driver, an aircraft pilot or a skilled horseman, as they all utilize the same skill. This may be refined and enhanced by the use of Stunts.
