Issues in Fate of Empire | World Anvil

Issues

Weighty Matters in Old Blighty, wot?

CURRENT ISSUE

Far distant lands are growing in importance... and danger. India and Egypt, those ancient lands of mystery grow in stature as our heroes must face The Jewel in the Crown.

From The Kensington Affair

The issue in The Kensington Affair represented a fundamental reality in a world where ostentatious wealth and privileged station exist cheek-by-jowl with crushing poverty and misery. It is simply this: Villainy Stalks the Foggy Streets.

From the Older Files...Tempus Fugitive

The old issues in Fate of Empire are linked to a fundamental reality: technology is antithetical to magic (and vice versa). For this reason, and despite the public stigma relating to it, the mages and creatures of darkness have joined forces to wage a secret war against the predominant forces of progress. To state it as an Aspect, it reads: Magic Infiltrates the Halls of Power.

At the same time, there is reason to believe that leaders in Britain and the Continent are being abducted and replaced with identical impostors, although by whom and for what purpose is unknown. Thus, the impending issue might be stated as World Leaders are Being Replaced by Impostors.

What Are Issues?

Every setting needs to have something going on that the characters care about, often a peril they want to fight or undermine. These are the setting’s issues.

Each story arc has two issues: the current one, and an impending issue. Often the latter is a possible consequence of the former; in other cases it creates a segue between one story and the next.
