Samaritans

"Love Thy Neighbor, and do no harm"

Religion is not something that is commonly practiced in the wasteland, at least not in an organized fashion. There are few who remember or were taught about the old ways or worship, and most wastelanders do not have in great abundance much room for hope of an unseen divine presence. Nevertheless faith is a powerful motivator for those in the most dire of straits, and in some parts of the world it is all that there is to keep people's heads above water.
The Samaritans are a collective group of religious followers with a penchant for altruism. They were first encountered at the OHSU campus where they were seen to be providing medical care to the Scavs and Guardians holding the Tigard Line. They even patched up the party's many wounds for no charge, asking for nothing in return but an optional donation of medical supplies or armaments. Men and women alike dressed in the curios visage of old-world religious practitioners, robes and all. Proselytizing isn't the only thing they're good at, evidently saving a soul in the post-nuclear world is a lot more hands-on than it used to be.
According to one Sister Sephana the Samaritans maintain outposts like OHSU across Cascadia, most often in other hospitals or places of worship, as well as traveling missionary groups that brave the streets of Portland and a central home known as The Grotto. There she suggested the group might find work, or at least information. There are few groups left in the world who could even charitably be called good people but the Samaritans seem, at least at first glance, to be worthy of their namesake. Only time will tell if that first impression remains wholly accurate.
