Father Clayton Creed
Clayton Creed is a man who has walked many roads and told many stories. Mostly of others, as he has devoted his life both to bringing his own faith to the wasteland and attempting to carry the the stories of those he meets, in his own little version of a pilgrimage. If you asked him his own story he would likely wave you off and say that he's just an old man, but if you insist he might not mind spinning you a yarn.
Long ago Creed lived the humble life of a Trashman (the local term for Scavenger) in the ruins of Salt Lake City. How long ago he can't quite remember. "I was already an old man when my skin started falling off, and I've only gotten older since. I reckon I'll be an old man for the rest of my life" he often says with a dry, mirthful chuckle.
Creed was there when Vault 70 opened its door and began to rebuild a little slice of civilization. He was one of the first outsiders accepted into the city that would come to be known as New Jerusalem, and one of the first wastelanders to be converted to the Mormon faith. When New Jerusalem closed its walls to outsiders due to internal strife, Creed was already a respected member of the church who had paid forward his religious saving countless times over. He accepted a voluntary exile from the home he helped raise in order to continue in this mission, reasoning against the city's leaders that there were still good folk out there who just needed to be shown the way.
After all, he's living proof.
After leaving Utah, Creed wandered into Dog Town in Colorado. There he met, was nearly killed by, and eventually managed to fight for the trust of a pack of the city's wild mongrels. Ever since then he has been a life-long dog lover and a career breeder who has had more canine companions than he can remember, all descended from that first wild shepherd from Denver he named Daisy. Since then he has continued Daisy's lineage and bred a succession of dogs for company and protection, mixing stock from whatever dogs he is able to tame along his travels. For wherever man can be found, even in the wasteland, his best friend is never far. Currently Creed is accompanied by a mutt-hound named Orville who has been his chief companion ever since arriving in Portland, and who has recently given birth to a litter of pups.
Creed is the man responsible for bringing the Mormon faith to Cascadia. When he first arrived in Portland he naturally fell in with the likes of the Samaritans, and his teachings were happily taken into the numerous beliefs of the faithful. After years of wandering, Creed decided that he was satisfied with the work his pilgrimage had done. He left the Samaritans in the care of his protoge James Heacock, and went looking for an abandoned house of God to take up the quiet life of a farmer in.
Unfortunately for Creed the moving gears of conflict cared little for his peaceful desires. He was driven from his new home in southern Portland by the advancing chaos of the Unity remnants fighting the Scavs and Guardians, and moved into the central city, where he briefly took up residence in an old watchtower as a guide for those moving through the city's more dangerous neighborhoods.
