Moda Garden

Moda Garden was once the seat of the most prominent governmental force in Portland. Though you would be forgiven for not knowing this, given its current status as a smoldering crater with some of the highest rads in the entire region.   What began as a small settlement with an open bar became a place for caravaners to share a drink and a story became a watering hold for all travelers. Then it became a place of neutral ground for business and civil discussion, where people could settle their differences and debates without hostility. Then it became a meeting house for the heads of settlements all across Portland to discuss matters of organization and collaboration. And, at its height, Moda Garden was the bustling headquarters of a provisional government known as the Coalition of Cascadia Reborn (CoCR). For years the CoCR brought law and order to Portland from their seats at Moda Garden. There they would meet, delineate, and formulate plans to elevate the region beyond isolated settlements struggling to survive. They even fought a war from the Garden, using their connections and neutral ground to raise a militia alongside the Guardians to repel a splinter of the Super Mutant Unity remnants in 2193.   But the good times were not meant to last. In 2195 Moda Garden was annihilated on the night of an all-hands meeting of the CoCR. A saboteur who remains unknown to this day entered Portland's neutral ground and caused a reactor meltdown, obliterating the stadium, the surrounding neighborhood, and every soul inside it. In the span of a single night the CoCR was wiped out, countless lives were lost, and Portland was plunged into an uncertain loss of leadership that it has never recovered from. Nowadays the ruins of Moda Garden are given a wide berth by the residents of Portland. Not just from the lingering radiation that makes it one of the most dangerous places in the region, but because of the painful memories that remain of what could have been and the frustrated questions that will never be answered.
