Isaac "Little Bear" Leopold

"I'm just a soldier, I do what I'm told and I'm damn good at it."

Isaac "Little Bear" Leopold is a man who embodies the strength of the Bear better than most any other individual in the New California Republic army. A behemoth of a man of remarkably fridge-like proportions, Leopold is the dedicated heavy weapons specialist assigned to the Portland expedition at the behest of Col. Briggs. He is a giant of few big words who some could charitably call "a simple man" if they were sure he was out of earshot.   What Leopold lacks in brains he more than makes up for with brawn and bear-headed determination to see through his orders to the letter. He joined the NCR to pay for the medical treatment of his ailing parents. After they passed he remained in the service of the New California Republic, reasoning that there was little left for him now.   Despite his brutish demeanor and outwardly blunt attitude, Leopold holds a peculiar fondness for the deadly intricacies of explosive armaments. He credits this to his upbringing as the son of a brahmin herder on the plains of Arizona, where the family herd was a frequent target for rustlers and bandits. As his parents grew old and sickly and the duty of defending the homestead fell to him alone, Leopold turned to traps and improvised defenses to keep the family livelihood secure. After serving in the NCR refined his skills Leopold is just as capable of hosing an entrenched enemy with a hail of inaccurate suppressing fire as he is rigging up a delicate timed fuse or an invisible tripwire.
During his time in Cascadia, Little Bear's allegiance to the NCR has waned without the reinforcement of his fellow soldiers. Perhaps it was being so far from home with no way back, perhaps it was the failure of their mission, or perhaps it was because of his encounters with the Guardians that made him question his loyalty to the NCR and its military. Only Leopold knows, and he isn't keen to talk about it.
