Colonel Briggs

The man in charge of the Oregon expedition, at least on paper. An older, tired-looking individual of above average height and build with a surly disposition and a bad case of resting-disapproving-sneer, Colonel Clyde Briggs is a man who brokers very little shenanigans. Although his title as an officer may conjure the image of pencil pushing and bureaucracy, Briggs' career as a soldier is long and accomplished. His age alone should be evident of that, as men tend not to live very long in his line of work. He has been a loyal servant of the New California Republic since before its inception and for much of his adult life, starting out as a caravan guard in the early days of the Shady Sands Coalition 30-odd years back.
His loyalty to the NCR is absolute but he resents his position as the expedition leader, as he would much rather be on the frontlines of the Tribal War than "babysitting these degenerate criminal dregs from the filthiest armpits of New California," in his own words. His reputation has a hard-ass among the NCR troopers is usually enough to keep them in line but the Colonel has always maintained that he is open to constructive criticism in his methods. He regularly invites dissidents to challenge his authority in a good old fashioned fist fight, and to date he is the reigning champion of this circuit.
After arriving in Portland and finally reaching the end of his orders for the expedition, Colonel Briggs was killed in action during the skirmish between the Scavs and the Super Mutants at the Stonehenge Broadcast Center. One can only hope that in his final moments he was able to feel peace with knowing that he was a loyal soldier to the very end.
