423A-E Civilized Occupations

Civilized Occupations

  Civilization bring with occupation specialization. As a culture become civilized job duties are broken down into smaller and smaller composts until each person in the society performs but all a single function. it is very unlikely to find a man or woman who is skilled at more than one occupation.   Civilized occupation are divided in to four classifications: Lower class or those jobs which commonly provided little income and are often based on physical labor; Middle Class, jobs which require formal education and or some monetary investment to learn or preform; Upper Class, which may require nothing more than mental effort and can either produce large amount of money or provide diversion for those who have no need for more money; and finally Special occupations those unusual jobs which fit no other classification and are often uncommon with in any Culture.   Instructions: Begin by rolling a d10 and adding the characters SOlMod to the result. match the total against Table 423A to find the character occupation. Follow the directions until an occupations is selected. From here go on to table 426: Occupation Performance.   Roleplay: By learning a trade a civilized character becomes a contributing member of society. He becomes welcome in professional societies guilds and trade fellowships. He gains skills that may be useful when adventuring and also has a means to make money when not adventuring.   Gameplay Benefits: each trade should have several skills associated with it that the character can learn and improve upon. The GM and the player ill need to determine what these are and how they are to be use in game.

10Goverment Offical: Select type on table 752: Goverment Officials. If the selected occupation appears to be one of relatively high status assume that the character is an assistant to that position possible a second in command or deputy director

16guide Pilot: a pathfinder who aids travelers and merchant in unknown areas. the Pilot is seagoing guide.
17Ships Captain: Sails ships on the high seas lakes and river. Often in another;s employ but has a 10+SolMod chance to own his ship
18engineer: A designer and constructor of mechanical devices and structures. May be a tinkerer or mad inventor type of person.

1Alchemist: A maker potions a magical meddler in the sciences. Not a wizard not quite a scientist.
2Engineer: A designer of constructor of mechanical devices and structures. Often work on grand scales
3Architect: the designer of grand structures
4Chiurgeon: Doctor/surgeon. A non-magical Healer who specializes in sewing up wounds and bleeding
5-7Merchant. go to table 435: Merchant and select the type of mercantile operations
8Craftsman: Select the craft on table 424C
9Courtier/Courtesan: an attendant in the court of a noble or Royal ruler -- sometimes nothing more than a fancy prostitute.
10Diplomat or Negotiator: establishes or smoothed relationship between governments or between businesses and governments
11Author/Playwrights/Poets: this indicates a successful writer/ Most practitioners of the literary arts are paupers. in a fantasy society such a person has a 75% chance to have a patron who sponsors his work.
12litigation trickers: A lawyer or barrister. Deals in the finder point of the law and deeding the innocent against unjust prosecutions
13Philosopher: A thinker a sage possibly associated with either a religious institution or a school of higher learning. may be quite wise or simply pompous

15interpreter: speaks several important languages fluently. is probably attached to a government office or a large mercantile guild
16Government Official: select then type on table 752: Government Officials
17Banker: keeps other folks money safe for them and loans money wisely. does not pay interest on mony kept in saving and may even charge to keep it there.
