Far Fairlian

'Far Fairlians' is the name adopted by the aliens who peacefully invaded Earth 80 years ago, negotiating a treaty that allowed them to use Earth as a staging area for their War.
In ordinary situations, Far Fairlians closely resemble humans. They're a little taller, with differently shaped ears, and their own phenotypes. They live about twice as long as humanity, and mature about half as fast. They also have innate magic, which they study and develop as both a life and professional skill.
While Far Fairlians may bear a resemblance to the shy woodland elves of fantasy, and perform tasks humans consider magic, they are a technologically advanced civilization. When they first arrived on Earth, they came in force, prepared to subjugate humanity in order to get their staging area. They were prepared, but subjugation was not their goal. As a culture, Far Fairlians are socially aggressive, competitive and individually combative, but they profess a distaste for military dominion supported by their pursuit of peaceful relations with Earth.
Far Fairlians make up somewhere between a third and a half of the population of Fairtree, mostly in the upper and criminal classes. The city is a refuge for their exiles and eccentrics, but a growing number of Far Fairlians were born and raised in Fairtree, or even other parts of Earth. They can be found in nearly every trade and walk of life in the city.

The Far Fairlians claimed they were looking for Earth in particular, due to legends of their own. Recently, human scholars of Far Fairlian culture have suggested this was meant as a Far Fairlian joke, or intended to break the ice, because the relevant historical periods do not line up.
