Vörkohz' invasion of Musqarbar

Vörkhoz, one of the great Irex has set her greedy eyes upon the Taur Ymagâr. Her armies have overwhelmed the warbands of the Brynd in the Eastern Kharian Basin and have opened a second front, landing on the Southeastern Taur Ymagâr coast, invading Rausc Kell from an unexpected direction.

The Conflict

Prelude

The Irex of the Old Xjinn Empire, after they became independant states had become forced to expand into new lands. For Vörkohz, decades of poisoning the Tyrqohz river has turned the lands near the Irex foul. Homesteads have pushed further north towards the Kharian Basin and it's fertile wetsoil.

For years, these homesteaders have been in conflict with the Tralfolk of the region. As Vörkohz expanded the Tralfolk communities and settlements have been forced back deeper into the Kharian Basin. Furthermore, the Tralfolk connected with the Kharian Brynd and allied with them to push back against Vörkohz.

These border skirmishes and raids escalated to the point where Vörkohz employed their armies to secure the colonial gains once and for all.

Deployment

In the initial phases of the war, the army of Vörkohz invaded the region of the Kharian Basin called Muqarbar. The forested depression impeeded Cavalry and obstructed the tight infantry formations, but the discipline of the invading troops continued to force the Tralfolk and Kharian Brynd North.

The Vörkhoz advance stalled at the Kyg Ket Lakes. The two lakes, the Pa Tyv Var Bay to the East and Gaz Tur Lake on the West leave only three narrow banks to reach the Tralfolk and Kharian strongholds. Unable to apply their superior strategic might Vörkohz chose to outflank.

Vörkhoz sailed north of the stagnant front and landed a Legion on the southern coast of the Taur Ymagâr forest then invaded Rausc Kell to the north of the vulnerable Cadral Marsh.

Battlefield

The war is close to being won by Vörkohz. The Tralfolk and the Kharian Brynd are trapped between the channels of the Kyg Ket Lakes and Rausc Kell. Should Vörkohz invade Cadral Marsh over the southern ridge of Rausc Kell, there is little that the Kharian Brynd and Tralfolk warbands can do to repel them. However, Vörkohz finds itself in a dangerous strategic situation, both of armies are within conquered, foreign territory.

Conditions

The terrain at the Kyg Ket lakes is very adverse to the heavy infantry and field engines Vörkohz employs. The army on this front has been forced to adapt to the saturated terrain. Their formations and field tactics, however rely on the protection of strong, heavy armor.

Rausc Kell, while compatable with heavy infantry, heavy cavalry and field engines is also recently occupied. The Kælic Bryndffolk, which are traditional rivals of the Kharians, have been provoked by the sudden invasion and occupation of their land. The northern front here is vulnerable to partisan resistance.

Outcome

This invasion has thus far only accomplished a tremendous expendature of soldiers and treasure from Vörkohz. The invading armies have won every major engagement (and most minor ones) and pushed back the Tralfolk deep into the Muqarbar. The displaced Tralfolk have, in turn, retreated into the territories of the Kharian Brynd. The Kharians have had to join forces with the Tralfolk in order to face the advancing Vörkohz. Finally the Vörkohz invasion of Rausc Kell has enraged the Kælic Brynd who have set aside their ages-old rivalry with the Kharian in favor of defeating a common Enemy. Even with three nations rising against Vörkohz, they're technological and strategic advantages have overcome the hardships of fighting in the Muqarbar.

Hi Dezzy! BTW, it wasn't read for some reason (probably because I talked too much) but you received an Honourable Mention for this military conflict article! Congratulations! This is what I wrote:

Vörkohz' Invasion of Musqarbar by Dezzy Parrish: This battle, still in progress in its universe, might have been drawn from many historical examples. Dezzy describes the battle from a strategic and tactical standpoint, and also displays intimate understanding of the effects of terrain on deciding the course of a conflict: In this case, a limited bottleneck of attack, and the struggles of dealing with heavy armour and tactics that rely on it in a saturated environment, something we can see historically in its worst-case scenario in the Battle of Agincourt. Congratulations on a job well done!
  Great work, and keep writing!
