Assault on the Abbey

Military action

The party leads a covert assault on Brightflame Abbey leading to discoveries that affect all of the city...

After an altercation within the city and a few of the local leadership missing, the party had been commissioned by the city to investigate the Brightflame Abbey and its dealings. However, because the law regarding Night Mourning there could not be any assistance from the local law enforcement.   With this in mind the group ventured beneath the Abbey through the sewers using information gathered from Snarlsburg and Babbitt after a failed assault on the front gates leaving them bruised and battered. Once in the system however the group stumbled on large carts being moved around the city carrying heavy loads of nathma, an extremely high powered and volatile explosive. Snarlsburg quickly dispatched the carmen and told the group of the danger this posed considering they did not know how much of this has been moved throughout the city sewers unnoticed. Moving further in they found the entry point to the Abbey guarded by a troll under the command of the people there.   Knowing what laid ahead the group moved quickly to dispatch the troll and its guards hoping to get into the Abbey proper. However, the battle proved fraught and difficult as the trolls venomous pustules wreaked havoc on those who engaged it in melee. Nymue found herself knocked out and nearly killed during the battle while the others left spent and unexpectedly exhausted once everything was finished. While taking a moment to catch their breath afterward the party was interrupted by noise from the trap door above of a person above. Thinking quick on his feet, Babbitt was able to shout up and deceive the man that everything was fine. In doing so, they discovered that something was planned to happen mid-morning the next day.   Due to their injuries the party decided to retreat and regroup to assault the Abbey the following morning, hoping to make it in time for whatever was planned. Using a route Babbitt had scoped that was remnants of the former city's systems the group camped outside the Abbey and city walls. Taking this time, Tallulah flew off to warn the Field Warden of the nathma and what that could mean for the city. Thanking her for the information he sent her on her way and moved to summon what guard he could in the night to scour the sewers.
