Episode Two Recap Plot in Faerun | World Anvil

Episode Two Recap

  • After recovering overnight in the Ruins of Illusk, the party reopens the secret door, only to find an elven rogue, and acquaintance of Noah von Till, from their days back in the High Forest.  Alecdora spotted the group entering the Ruins and followed them down, keeping to the shadows.  It is decided they will team up.
  • In some sort of temple, adorned with knotwork of the North, and the same symbol as Noah and Zirkin's tattoos, a tiny Blue Orb is discovered, about the size of a marble.  Zirkin takes possession of the Orb, causing a man, Laece, to suddenly appear.  He is a cleric of some sort, and begins casting a hold person spell.  A few moments later he stops, suddenly aware Zirkin is holding the orb.  He gasps,  “how can you be holding that?” he freezes, lowering his weapon. He glances about, curious and nervous of you all. He notes the tattoo on the Zirkin's arm. He points and demands, "where did you get that??"
  • Suddenly, the crackling grows louder; figures all around you begin to fade into existence, with echoing sounds of battle drawing louder….A brilliant flash of chain lightning appears around the room, though not fully here yet.  A mage, a zombie ogre, 6 skeletons, and 7 zombies fade into existence, currently engaged in battle with another image of the stranger (Laece) before you. With a look of confusion the stranger begins moving, in an almost tortured, backward way. Slowly his form meshes with the same on fading in; they become one. Battle ensues, with the mage escaping, and the party dispatching the rest of the undead.
  • Laece abruptly dissappears into thin air.
  •  The party makes their way back to the surface, only to find it is now suddenly winter, and the destroyed town is apparently empty.
  • As the party work their way through the quiet town, they encounter Rody's horse, who had somehow survived, perhaps hidden away from the battle.  Several ghouls or similar undead, jump the party, and they manage to destroy them and keep moving, only to realize the town is full of undead, and they are coming for the party.
  • The decision is made to make for the docks, in hopes of finding a ship.  Along the way they fight off the undead and finally come to a gated wall.  Limp D bends the bars  of the gate to make room for everyone to squeeze through, except Alecdora and Rody, who have climbed the wall instead.
  • As they make for the last functioning ship, a horde of undead at their heels, Rody, realizing they will not all fit-most certainly with a horse, waits for the party to get onboard, pushes the boat free of the dock, and announces to Zirkin, "I swore an oath to your father to protect you."  He turns, mounts his steed and charges into the horde of undead as they round the wall.  A horn of Neverwinter is the last sign of Rody as he is swallowed up by the horde.
  • The party floats along, keeping close to the shore, making for Neverwinter, home of Zirkin and Thondar.  This night the party sees the impossible, there are two moons rising, not just the one that should be there (Selune).
  • After a few days of travel, they are suddenly attacked by a group of massive Sea Lions.  A battle ensues, and the Harper of Neverwinter is lost in combat with the lead Sea Lion.  As Limp D delivers a massive blow to the lion, he sees the Harper shouting something at the Lion.  When the blow is landed he, just for a moment sees Rapid Shadow holding on behind the head of the Lion.  As the Harper is beheaded by the Lion, Limp D loses sight of Rapid Shadow.  Of course Rapid Shadow has been behind him, standing on the ship, this entire time?
  • As the battle winds to a close, a pirate ship closes in from the west.  They are upon you by the end of the battle.  They do not attack, instead the Captain of the ship, Bruce Weaver, introduces himself and asks them to come aboard....then insists.  As the party stalls for time, Zirkin adeptly uses a scroll of Polymorph Other on Thondar, turning him into a gold dragon.  Another group of pirates, below deck, open up a porthole on the side of the ship, and demand, "in the name of he, Captain of the ship, Steven Archer, you must come aboard at once."  The party jumps onto the dragon and quickly fly to safety.
  • The party then flies to Neverwinter.  The King Alogondar is absent, meeting a friend in Helm's Hold, just to the south of town.  They are greeted by Ophelia, Zirkin's stepmother.  The party rests, is resupplied, and realizes Ophelia has gone a little (or a lot) mad.  The episode closes with Ophelia calmly saying, "isn't it beautiful?" pointing to the sky, in front of a single moon rising, a tiny flashing red dot moving lowly across the sky in front of the moon.
