Ylraphon

Ylraphon has seen many centuries of continuous destruction and renewal. Founded by elves and subsequently occupied by several groups of orcs, dwarves, and humans, the town has seen drastic change on a regular basis. The original elven city was much larger than Ylraphon is today; the outer portions of the city sank into the swamps of the Flooded Forest and the entirety was raided on multiple occasions.   Ylraphon occupies a unique niche in the economic landscape of The Vast; as the only town left standing in the Flooded Forest, it has almost exclusive access to the duskwood forests in the south of the forest. Most of Ylraphon's citizens are laborers or merchants, and the town is controlled from The House of Merchants by an appointed council.   Extraordinary magical instruments are used to process the duskwood harvested in the Flooded Forest, and the town has flourished in the years following its re-founding. In the interim, restrictive policies have been implemented to keep Ylraphon safe. In light of the series of unfortunate occurrences that have befallen the town, a general restriction on magic use has been instituted in Ylraphon. Long-term residents or frequent visitors may obtain a magic license for limited use in town.   The town is a veritable hodgepodge of culture; many remnants of previous settlements remain in Ylraphon. One of the most notable is Moonwater, a temple of Selune dating back to the original elf civilization of Ylraphon. The temple has survived through occupation and siege by several forces. Many other faiths find representation in Ylraphon, though a shared cultural identity has not aligned many of these believers together.
