The Libraries
The size of a city, the Libraries sprawl above the gray-green Coeurellian landscape. Its winding halls and thousands of rooms contain more books than any other location in the world. Organized not by author nor title, but topic (such as "Love," "War," and "Soups made from Potatoes"), one could lose themselves in here for weeks in search of a single tome. The arcane and war strategy sections are particularly famed, and both are responsible for great triumphs and calamities throughout Apresdas' history. None are banned from access to the Libraries, and they are considered a neutral ground where violence is prohibited. The infamous Coeurellian guillotine awaits those who break this rule.
The Coeurellian royal family, the Parlaguerres, live within the complex. Their home, the Red Castle, is attached to the northernmost wing of the Libraries. Reverence for knowledge runs deep through Coeur's culture, and the monarchy is directly associated with and responsible for that reverence. This extends to the fact that the guardian of the Libraries' vast collections, the Bookkeeper, is considered a member of the royal family.
