Charles Tomah
Charles Tomah passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at the age of 40, from injuries sustained in a sudden storm surge event that struck the island of Chogan Island just to the north of Byer's Boughs. He passed together with his loving wife of 17 years, Ingrid Tomah and their 16-year-old son, Eric Tomah.
Charles was born August 16, 1959 in Byer's Boughs, Eydraumr to Wapun Tomah and Alexander Tomah. He followed his parents and siblings into the fishing trade. Charles's boat, The Roaring Tides, had been a regular site at Byer's Boughs and throughout both Eydraumr and Acadia's fishing lines. Charles is remembered by the community as a welcoming presence and a delight among the chow-halls and festivals.
He is survived by his 12-year-old daughter, Brenna Tomah, his parents, his younger brothers Gregory Tomah of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and Muuki Tomah of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
He is preceeded in death by his grandparents, Michelle Dupree and Sunukkuhkau Dupree, and Nittawosew Tomah and Huritt Tomah.
Memorial services will be held at 10 am Friday, July 14, at the Kemepowaw Hall, with Elder Matunaagd Moore officiating.
Friends may call the Hall from 9am to 4pm Thursday, and the family will receive friends from 2pm to 6pm Friday.
Contributions to the memory of Charles, and to his daughter Brenna, may be made to the Keme Childrens' Fund of Eydraumr.
