Vracaris

Vracaris was once the capital city of a draconic empire, located on the volcanic island of Scorchland, Terrasmus.
Vracaris had a population of mostly Dragonborn. Due to their unique ancestry, Dragonborn can only reproduce with other Dragonborn, this is speculated to be the origin for the founding of Vracaris, where Dragonborn could all live together in the same location.
Vracaris was founded during the Silver Age, and remained neutral during the Dragon-Elf War. The empire survived until the Age of Arcanum, where it is recorded as being the most powerful magocracy of its time.
The little archaeological information that could be gathered from the ruins suggest that the Dragonborn lived in a matriarchal society and primarily worshipped the Draconic Pantheon of Bahamut and Tiamat.
The city was destroyed in 1523 BF, with its destruction shrouded in mystery. Even surviving historical accounts of the time don’t have an exact reason for Vracaris’ destruction, with speculation of an unstoppable mass volcanic eruption or a magical armageddon. Accounts do speak of a massive explosion that was heard all across the world, followed by a few months of darkness as the skies were filled with black smoke and ash. Records also talk about how the entire area was irradiated with magic, making it impossible for anyone to travel to the ruins for a few hundred years.
The aftermath of the fall of Vracaris lead to a massive power vacuum among the mageocracies of Arcanum, resulting is multiple factions scrambling in an attempt to fill the position left by Vracaris. The destruction of Vracaris also led to the near extinction of the Dragonborn species, with a large majority of their population killed off. The Dragonborn species never recovered from the Fall of Vracaris and the The Fall of Arcanum that came after it, with their population remaining dangerously low to this day.
In the modern day the ruins of Vracaris are largely avoided due to the risk of volcanic activity and the remnants of ancient magic. While local legends circulate about the terrifying dangers that lie within the ruins, some archaeological groups have begun to research the area, hoping to unearth mysteries lost to time.
