Chaos

The Ever-Raging Storm of Chaos, usually just called Chaos, is one of the Divine Planes and the location of the prison of the Dark Deity Apophis.

It is an inhabitable realm of sheer unpredictability and chaos, where the incredibly hostile environment makes survival almost impossible.

It is said that the Plane of Chaos was created during the early years of Creation, bursting forth havoc and disorder into the Universe at the same times as the birth of the Primordial Apophis, who is believed to be intimately tied to the Plane. Apophis' prison is said to reside at the heart of the Plane.

Geography

The Plane of Chaos is often described as a perpetual storm residing within a never-ending void. Earthen debris of all sizes, from clouds of dust, to city size monoliths, are thrown around by cosmic wind, mixing with debris from all across the Planes, from Faerie trees, to massive crystals from the Plane of Earth, each of them clashing into each other constantly and creating clouds of even smaller debris that gets swept up by the swirling vortex. Cracking red lighting strike through the clouds, created by the constant friction, blasting anything in it's path.

Pockets of Elemental energies also traverse the Plane, from rivers of Water, to orbs of blazing Fire and bubbles of toxic Air, erupting on contact with each other to create busts of dust, ice, magma, mud, smoke and steam. The Elemental fire and sparking lighting act as the only source of natural light here.

In the nature of unpredictability, there were also pockets of clear void, where the winds and debris circled but never entered. Some of these pockets had floating islands within them, suspended in nothing and locked in place where no Magical force scholars could muster would move them.

Like The Astral Sea, that the Plane of Chaos most closely resembles, there is no atmosphere or breathable air within the Plane, with visitors forced to use Magic to survive here. A consistent gravity is also largely absent, with the larger structures having a gravitational pull to them, while smaller objects will generally fly straight until they hit another object, sending both projectiles flying in another direction, and objects with no momentum hang in space if not affected by the blistering winds.

The sound of the wind and constant collisions are so loud in some parts of the Plane that without adequate protection, beings with hearing are rendered temporarily deaf in a matter of seconds and permanently deaf in a few minutes. With conversation only able to be accomplished by shouting at close range.

Time

Time within the Plane of Chaos can sometimes become dilated or distorted. While traversing the Chaos you may encounter pockets of Time distortion, where Time feels like it's moving fast or slower, but on average Time usually feels like it is flowing normally.

But upon leaving the Plane of Chaos, it can turn out that more Time has passed that you actually experienced, sometimes on the order of weeks, months, or even years longer than expected. While in other cases it is possible for little or no Time to have passed instead.

The more extreme ends of Time distortion are uncommon, but it is not unprecedented. Fortunately Spells and other enchantments have been developed in order to counteract this distortion, lessening the possibility of the more extreme results.
