Scope
The motivation behind building Exflora
To create a world where each of the nations has some basic information about each of them, presented in the yearly report format.
Create a world where interactions between nations and people can be highlighted in different articles.
Create some interesting architectural buildings along the way.
Maybe create a short story or 2 to allow characters to explore different parts of the world in more detail.
And always remembering not to stress as this can always be further enhanced and expanded over time.
The goal of the project
I hope to share this world with my family and friends.
I would really like to produce a printed version of the Yearly Reports once all the worlds are complete.
They then can be used by others to conduct champagnes or become story starters.
I want my audience to enjoy the vision of the world but still believe there is more to tell.
Exflora's Unique Selling point
My world is a world that did not have colonization to any great degree. Therefore the native cultures are often in their original state.
In general, states only interact with their neighbours and their neighbours neighbours. There are a few exceptions but the exceptions tend to be the people who operate long distant trading routes and they have become conditioned to travel over many generations.
The end result is that each continent has a different feel to it, and more importantly each has a different level of development. Some parts are very advanced while others are very underdeveloped. You would expect this is a world where there are very few interactions with distant societies and where there was no overriding canalisation from any world power.
Theme
Genre
Because of the nature of the planet, where there has been no colonizing, to any great extent, the various parts of the world have been left to develop at their own pace without much influence from others. This has produced a world with many different iterations and technological levels. There are parts that are very modern and others that are not.
The end result is that each continent has a different feel to it.
The Continent of Karnak |
This continent is very similar to the Middle East at about the year 1,000 AD, the Moores in Spain or the Byzantine Empire. |
The Continent of Rusdaysia |
This continent is similar to the Eastern European countries in about the year 1800 AD where there were manly peasant farmers. |
The Continent of Mydridlands |
This continent is the most technically advance with society at approximately the 2100 AD mark. |
The Continent of Romalia |
The Continent is similar to Asia in about the year 500 AD. |
The Continent of Stabatia |
The north of the continent is similar to Europe at about the medieval period but the southern parts of the continent are more like Egypt and Africa. |
The Continent of Zerebim |
This continent is based on Magic and is approximately medieval at about the 1400 AD period |
The Island Nations |
The islands are very diverse from tropical paradises, Arctic windswept communities and strange cultures resembling societies that have been isolated for many generations. Think Easter Island, Palau, the Eskimo or the Aztec. |
Reader Experience
The general feel for the world is hopeful and safe. There are mysteries to discover around every turn but overall the world is safe for people to wander around in.
The idea of the many different countries approach is to have many examples of how different countries are set up and structured and how differently they can operate. This is almost like a social science imagination of what would have been if our world had been like this and had not had colonization.
Generally, countries are friendly to each other. Diplomacy usually triumphs over conflict.
Reader Tone
The world is Bright with a little Harry Potter and Shannara Chronicles thrown in for fun.
Recurring Themes
Stories of how these countries came to be and how they operate. Historical figures from the past and interesting natural wonders.
Character Agency
The Yearly Reports from each country in Exflora are a snapshot of the planet at a particular year. They can be used as a setting for characters to advance the world forward. The Yearly Reports are however a big picture overview and characters should only affect minor details. This is especially so when the intrinsic nature of the planet is that a country usually does not affect another country that is 2 countries removed.
So characters can have impacts on cities, and sometimes states and nations but usually not continents or the whole world. The character almost wholly affect issues at the local or national level only.
There is no main character in the world of Exflora. There will be a series of characters from history and present-day characters that can be found in stories about each continent.
Focus
The First Focus Point should be the creation of the Yearly Reports for each country. This was the original emphasis behind the world creation idea and still is the central theme in Exflora. These Yearly Reports will then be used as the basis for all other world activities including, story creation, roleplaying and Geographic creativity, History creation and so on that will follow on from these Yearly Reports. They are central to the creation process.
The second focus point should be to flesh out the locations in the individual countries. Adding secondary cities and extra interesting locations. This should be done to countries where the Yearly Reports have been completed. This is very important as it adds interest to the main information. History is only interesting if we add in the small stories that add perspectives to the larger events and allow us to understand the world better.
The third Focus point should be focused upon some prominent families of characters who populate the world. This could include family trees and relationship graphs plus short stories about why individuals are important.
It would be a great long term goal to allow others to take the story forward using the original Yearly Reports as Year one in a simulated live virtual world where others can progress the story with future Yearly Reports being generated by the users themselves.

The Magic in Zerebim is reaching its maximum in the 20-year cycle. This also means that the low levels of magic outside of Zerebim is also better able to be detected and this magic is being hunted for.
