Crested Wave Estate Settlement in Exalted: in the Age of Sorrows | World Anvil

Crested Wave Estate

Small estate that belonged to a mercantile family that is now run down and promised to Stomrcrow and Marag-ang as payment for returning the shadow-puppet marionette and capturing the necromancer who was using it.
The ancestor house has been recently converted into a small Abyssal aspected Manse.

Twelve miles from Dragon's Jaws by decent roads, and the canal irrigating it is large enough for small boats, sourced from the Queen of Rivers upstream of the Serene Canal.

Infrastructure

Apart from the main house the estate buildings include:

  • Stables suitable for around a dozen oxen
  • A (currently empty) warehouse with space for at least 3 wagons and wooden slats forming a floor keeping anything stored off the ground. Smells faintly of snake.
  • Smithy suitable for repairing agricultural tools and wagons
  • Estate housing, bunk houses and small huts. Some are inhabited by house staff
  • Ananate Berry Winery that has been stripped of fittings (see resources)
  • Large gazebo with long tables and benches as well as ovens and wood fire stoves. The pillars holding the roof have been carved with images of local spirits. Would have been the social centre of the workers.
  • Irrigation and travel canal, with a small boathouse

Manse

Previously an Ancestor House for the worship of the Crested Wave ancestor ghosts, the single ground floor room has been subtley altered and the fetters and ancestral images removed. Stairs lead down to a newly excavated basement room that is the hearthstone room of the Manse, with a heavy wooden door inlaid with ebony, bone and ivory that opens only onto a panel of the same materials during the day, but at night is a doorway to the Underworld. No matter the conditions outside the inside is always dim, cool and dry and free of vermin (though their bodies have to be occasionally cleared out of boxes on the ground floor).

Level 1 Abyssal Manse, Life Draining Stone

Drawbacks

  • Habitablibility ●: No facilities but provides shelter.
  • Maintenance ●: Every few months myrrh and salt based incense must be burnt in a censer carried inside and outside.

Features

  • Comfort Zone
  • Shadowland - contained in the door

Natural Resources

Yellow Persimmon orchards make up most of the Estate, though all are overgrown and untended, with fallen fruit attracting swams of flies and less pleasant vermin. Some of the orchards are now only stumps, as timber was sold off to raise extra silver.

Next to the house is a small grove of ananate berries, at this scale it was only ever for house consumption.

Population
Around 10 servants still work in the main house, but the rest of the estate housing is empty.
