Channel of Precarious Prosperity
South of An-Teng, the channel stretches from Spearpoint Island and Scar south-west to Earlsport for over 600 miles, protected from the open ocean by an archiplego.
During the seasons of Air and Water monsoon winds blow north-east along the channel, while during the season of Fire the winds blow the other way. Late in each year many merchant ships gather in Arjuf and Scar where they join tribute ships to-be and their Imperial escorts before the argosy travels to Earlsport, waits out Calibration befojre they return to Scar and onwards to Arjuf. The rest of the year the channel is the preserve of merchant galleys whose rowers allow them to travel against the prevailing winds and also provide enough teeth to resist the bucaneers and barbarian raiders who swarm in the channel, but who in turn help keep Lintha pirate vessels out.
