Error Executing Witty Retort

Summer 2021, Week 5

Sunday midday

Nathaniel Oakes' Home, Loyalist Bluffs

Nathaniel Oakes

"...And at the same time tomorrow, I'll be starting up a fleet to cause some havoc in Goon territory, and I'll be in an Arty Machariel. Going to need some Scythes and some scouts, too. But until then, fly dangerously my 'leets and completes!" The multiple displays are projected in front of him via his chair, his multi-boxing of several accounts closing down. He gives his send-off before switching his stream to raid another EVE Online streamer by the name of BjornBee, and types out a message in his chat for Bjorn to announce the 87 viewers that would raid his chat, a sizeable amount for such a small and niche following. And close stream. "Jenkins, kill streamer tasks and execute Workshop tasks."

OuroborOS

The autonomous AI developed to be partnered with Nathaniel's version of OuroborOS begins the process of killing and executing tasks with a somewhat snarky, "Of course, sir. Would you like me to bring you a pillow and a glass of water with lemon wedges, as well?"

Nathaniel Oakes

"No, that will not be necessary." He smiles, proud of his accomplishment of actually adding personality to a sophisticated computer program. Stepping up from his streaming chair, he stretches a little bit, his joints creaking a little bit from the hours spent sitting. The chair itself was nothing short of a comfortable Space-age captain's chair with an ergonomic keyboard and mouse pad to game with, and the projected display showed the multiple tasks opening as he continues to stretch.   "Jenkins, is the Operating System installed and ready to go on the exosuit? I would like to give it a test run sometime this week, the sooner the better." He walks out of the streamer room, down the hallway and into another doorway that led to his workshop, where a large quantity of pieces, parts and materials for making computers and robots lay in organized bins around the area. Prominently affixed to a stand near a wall is the exosuit, cables and wiring hooked up to the house's integrated network secured in various ports.

OuroborOS

"Yes, sir. The OuroborOS Version 2.4.16 is installed with Jenkins AI integrated. Starting runtime diagnostics now, sir." The voice came from the speakers in the workshop, as the Master's current location is identified, and the display that was in the streamer room switches to the workshop, projecting to a table and allowing touch recognition to be enabled. The master does like to use his hands to swipe through notes and blueprints in his workshop, after all.

Nathaniel Oakes

He grins and gazes at the smooth exterior of the exosuit. "Excellent. We will begin with a simple mobility test, then a test of mechanical enhancements."

OuroborOS

"Diagnostic protocol is 46% complete. Estimated time until completion, 5089 milliseconds."

Nathaniel Oakes

He sighs and shakes his head, smiling as he says "Jenkins. If I weren't so eager to test the suit, I'd be disappointed with the lack of a mathematical challenge. But I am glad your priority of tasks is on the diagnostics and not wasting RAM on formulating a calculation for me to reverse and find your answer."

OuroborOS

"Apologies, sir. Error executing witty retort, took too long to respond due to finishing diagnostics, which are now 100% complete. Is there anything else you wish me to do, sir?"

Nathaniel Oakes

"No, Jenkins. That will do for now." He grins and begins disconnecting the cables from the suit. I should waterproof the suit. OPEN MentalNote.exe; INPUT PRINTSTR "Waterproof exosuit before testing outdoors." He executes the command to the house via touching the tips of the cables and transmitting to code to the computer system, opening a notepad application and adding the requested reminder to it.

He begins the process of putting on his exosuit, the frame of it opening to allow him inside. The safety protocols were simple enough: a scan of all of his fingerprints, his face, and a vocal sample to allow the suit to unlock its positioning from the mount in the wall. "Excellent. Jenkins, begin the tests."
