WURM Subterranean Troop Carrier
WURMs are long, serpentine Diggers designed to carry up to one hundred soldiers underneath enemy territory. WURM reportedly stands for Very Big Surprise Attack in an ancient form of Drughal.
Power Generation
The WURM is one of the only known vehicles that makes use of hybrid Mana-Boiler technology. While the machine requires an enormous amount of magical power to start moving, the digging process is capable of powering the machine for most of it's journey. However, the engines of a WURM are known to overheat very easily, and must be given an hour of rest for each eight hours it moves.
Propulsion
Like most Diggers, the WURM propels itself with a series of turbine rotors that 'chew through' the earth to pull the vehicle. Unlike most Diggers, however, the WURM pulls some of the displaced material into itself for use as fuel.
Weapons & Armament
WURMs are poorly armed because they are expensive to operate, thus they are designed solely to transport troops underground. Every ten feet or so the WURM is armed with a thrusting adamantine spearhead designed to penetrate Badger armor. However, at best it can only slow enemy vehicles enough to make an escape, as it only moves marginally faster than other Diggers.
Armor and defense
The best WURM models are fitted with an extra mana engine fitted with elemental batteries. By expending the batteries, the crews of these WURMs are able to electrify the outer shell of the vehicle, which may be able to shut down enemy engines for a short time or kill the crew of poorly insulated enemy vehicles.
Communication Tools & Systems
Without magic, there is no way to communicate in tunnel warfare between vehicles. Battle mages are usually considered too valuable to assign to subterranean activities.
Sensors
Most Digger crews operate mostly blind, relying on sand seismographs to locate enemy Diggers, but some crews choose to use trained burrowing animals as guides.
