Sir Truffle I
Truffle was a small companion dog belonging to a Lancaster innkeeper. Initially employed as a ratter (and later, reportedly a 'lazy old man' who slept in front of the fireplace all day), Truffle is famous for having rescued a group of children during the Minotaur Uprisings of 1417, including the newborn Princess Yang IV.
During the Siege of Silverlight, an army of minotaurs had tunneled their way into the city. The army of Lancaster was headed up by Queen Theodora Silverlight, recently returned from the Imperial Capital to give birth (a tradition as old as Lancaster itself). Over the course of the battle, the fighting spilled over into several residential neighborhoods. No longer with a safe escape route, some of the knights were tasked with protecting civilians and had redirected many children to the Firemarke Inn. Famously, Theodora had her baby during the fight, the Princess Yang, who was immediately taken to the Firemarke to be protected.
As a resullt of the tunneling used by the minotaurs to invade the city, sections of Silverlight began to collapse throughout the fighting. When the Firemarke fell into the tunnels, Truffle leapt into action and led the remaining two knights and their many, many tiny charges through the dark, warning them of monsters well before they could be seen and even was wounded attacking a giant rat that had gone after a straggler. Truffle's master had died in the siege, but when he and his group emerged from the tunnels outside the city he refused to leave the rescued children. When it was all over, Truffle was adopted by the Crown and knighted for his valiant service. Fot the rest of his days, Truffle enjoyed a life of luxury in Castle Silverlight with his own dedicated servants. Of his puppies, one was chosen to take his place as royal companion, the line carrying on to day with Truffle III. A statue of the scuffy little dog, depicting him bravely protecting a child from a minotaur, forever stands in the ruins of what was once the Firemarke Inn.
