Redfield
Demographics
A majority of Redfielders are Skaldoran Humans, followed by Langite Elves and, naturally, Half-Elves
Government
Redfield is a military outpost turned city, left in the hands of the House of Redfield. As such, the city is permanantly under martial law under the 5th Heavy Legion, which in turn is always commanded by a Redfield. Whoever happens to be Captain Redfield has sole control over the city and it's laws, so long as his rulings are in line with the general Common Law of The Darkwood under Wartime Doctrine. Each citizen agrees upon reaching adulthood to serve as a laborer or clerk in time of war or is not allowed to live permanently in Redfield.
Infrastructure
The city of Redfield is built to withstand an invasion by The Confederacy for as long as possible and serve as a supply outpost in the event of an Imperial invasion of the same. The city is built on a strict grid pattern, with designated main roads large enough for vehicles to pass through and many smaller roads built between stone houses that can be easily barricaded. The roof of any individual building is maintained at expense of the Legion, but in turn are all built to hold defensive engines and archers. The walls of Redfield are actually designed to break easily in certain places in hopes of funneling invading forces into a trap. Supply outposts dot the city.
Districts
There are a few permanent, designated districts throughout the city of Redfield.
- The Palace is where the Redfields and other nobility live, designed to be an impenetrable final challenge to an invading force.
- Armory is a neighborhood for craftsmen, particularly smiths, tanners, masons, and bowyers. As is traditional in the Empire, this is home to a wide street of forges called Tin Street.
- Barracks is housing for active duty soldiers and city guards. It is larger than it needs to be and is well-maintained, as in the event of war breaking out The Legion would send additional troops to Redfield and other bastion-cities first. It has space for a thousand horses in addition to other, more exotic mounts as well as a small airfield for flying craft.
- Sinner's Alley is a neighborhood of bars, taverns, dancing halls, stages, drug dens, and anything else you might imagine a soldier might desire to do on their leave. Non-soldier citizens usually go elsewhere for entertainment, as Sinner's Alley has a negative reputation. A small Temple of Fortissimus stands on the corner nearest the city outer walls.
- The Elfin Quarter is the least maintained part of the city, where Elvish serfs fleeing the Confederacy go to live. As with many such places within the Empire, it's citizens are often treated poorly by the Imperial bureaucracy, and many Imperial soldiers assume there are spies within such neighborhoods.
- Homefront is where most non-soldier, non-Elf citizens live. It is the least defensible position within the city, and many buildings and homes in the district maintain small community farms in the space around each building. This is where the local Mage's Guild building is, as well as inns for the rare traveler.
